The "culture" he was referencing in the recent press conference was very different. He was talking about the general culture in college basketball resulting from NIL & the free transfer rule which makes it very difficult to build continuity in a team. It was not intended at to be St. John's specific or any reflection on his players.

If that’s the case, that’s a different story and I would actually tend to agree although initially, Pitino seemed all on board with that and even mentioned that he would have no problem adapting to it.

I think Pitino was ok with NIL, it's the new free transfer rule on top of the NIL that makes it difficult to keep players.

He was looking a year ahead when recruiting the likes of Ejiofor, Luis, and Taylor, kids who would have been essentially forced to stay. It was a great recruiting strategy.

Our players have been openly fighting on the court for a month. The announcers mentioned it twice today and Luis snapped at Pitino. And one kid on the whole team plays good defense. Pitino has been knocking their effort all season. The culture doesn’t seem to be good at all.
