@Marquette, Sat., Feb. 10, 6p, FS-1

It’s true. We have the slowest backcourt in the conference. I used to say besides maybe DePaul but they were faster than us too. We can’t stop anyone.

Every time we lose, fans claim it’s a lack of effort. Do you guys see how much quicker every other team’s guards are?! It’s a talent issue first and foremost.
Our front court ain’t exactly blessed with foot speed either with Slugiano and Leadfootlum.

I'm just at the point to where I'm starting to look forward to next year.

Can't take these 2nd half collaspes anymore.

I look at this team sometimes, and I wonder how we've won any games.

This team is probably slightly better than Mullin's first, in terms of talent, heading into the season. We need an upgrade in that area. No more settling for diamonds in the rough. Those type of guys can come later.

No more worrying about whether a guy can fit in your system. If he's a stud, you fit the system around him. I'm getting really bad vibes that Rick is a lot like Anderson, in that he is essentially telling guys, "forget everything you've done in the past, you're playing my game now." That just doesn't work anymore. Look at Shaka. You don't see much of the havoc style that you saw him employ at VCU. It's there in spurts, but it's not constant, because he knows he doesn't have guys who can play it, so he adjusts accordingly.

Why is this so hard for other, mostly older, coaches to figure out?

pitino and staff will recruit much differently this offseason. We need wings who can lock the f**k up when we need them to.

I think ricks great mistake this year was he thought he could coach any team into a good defensive unit on the fly. Nah, In high level D1 hoops, you need the personnel to be a great defensive team. Like Zuby, he’s a great defensive big, but he literally might be our only good defensive player on the team. That can’t be the case if you want to win a lot at a big East level.

I’m torn between wanting to get one more shot at Kolek in the BET, cause man do I want to beat him. But also know that it’s probably better if we never see that dude ever again LOL

With all of that said, I do like our team more than a lot of you. Their shortcomings are clear. But I’m with marillac, it’s more about personnel to me, not just effort. If our team wasn’t trying, we wouldn’t be lethal on the offensive boards!

They are TRYING, they just aren’t a good defensive team. It doesn’t JUST take effort to be good at defense, you need to have lateral quickness, you need to know when to rotate; who to rotate to, you need to know how to stay in front of guys without fouling. Our team doesn’t have speed/quickness or the cohesiveness to be a good defensive team. It’s why I wanted #0 back because he would’ve at least been someone we could’ve thrown on a guard who was torching us.

Team is flawed but I will root like hell for them the rest of the season.

Lose to PC Tuesday, is it better to give young guys, potential returnees more minutes going forward for their development than status quo?
Idk. I feel like as long as there’s a shot we can get a top 5 finish and not have to play Wednesday night at the BET, then we have to keep on keepin on. We’re a game out of the 5 spot with the most games remaining against DePaul/GTown i believe, so I wouldn’t give up on that.

Even if we’re not gonna be on the right side of the bubble, I always want to shoot for trying to bypass that Wednesday at the BET. Because then you only need one win to make the fun Friday night semifinals that we’ve never appeared in seemingly ever haha

Sorry, but Rick already tried going that route. He tried starting Brady. He tried starting Simeon. Taylor was a starter....but obviously not as dangerous as Luis on offense.
You saw some trend with Zuby getting Soriano's minutes today. There are no other key young players on this team and this is that time of the year for all hands on deck.

So, no, why would you want to concede the season before the Big East tournament?

Jack, if you take away the DePaul scrimmage, they have lost 6 of 7.
Do you really think they can get be a top 5 team in conf still?

I mean seriously.
I’m not saying they’re a top 5 team in the conference, but statistically we still have a very real shot to get a top 5 FINISH in the conference which I would very much like cause then we’d need one less win in the BET to reach the semifinals. Which is a benchmark I have wanted to reach for over a decade now. The Friday night at MSG during the BET is incredibly fun and we’ve never been a part it in the NBE

Team has its flaws obviously, but flabbergasted that a team w so many veteran players can’t close out a close game, usually poise & experience prevails, but obviously not the case here

Jack, yeah I'd love that also. Shit I want the win the damn B.E. Tournament and look at our rivals and say yeah that's right the sleeping giants have awoken and we're we're king now, but that's my heart.

My brain is saying it won't be this year, but our time is coming, and we can stare every rival down and say: "we're back, and we're staying back on top for a long long time.

This is why I would like for Pitino to extensively practice a zone defense with this group. He doesn't have to completely go away from man, but I'd like to see us utilize zone for a decent chunk of games.

Read Pitino's post game quotes. Noted usual struggle of defense and first year team adapting to learn.

Concern is while we'll have a few or perhaps all eligible back, I'm not convinced that group will improve on defense exponentially to where Pitino expects it.

Even with some big portal names, we'll have work cut out to be at top

My brain also tells me this year isn’t the year, but if we have an opportunity to give ourselves a better path to make a little run, I’m pulling for that. I mean hell freaking Patrick Ewing (as a coach) won the BET. I’m not giving up until we’re walking off the MSG floor in March as losers

Was there a game plan against Kolek? Could have easily predicted the game going this way. Deny him the ball, full court, with a fresh player every 3 minutes, make him work for every inch, wear him down. Sure would beat the "I can't believe he made another 3" spectacle we watched today.
Classic Soriano, he switched out on a guard, ball went inside to their big man, who had Jenkins on him, so Joel took a step even farther away from the basket. He wants to hide when the going gets tough. He's Braveheart with an uncontested dunk.
