Marco Bourgault

Marco Borgault is our Dwight Hardy, and Lavin does know it? I mean nothing for nothing, NR did not know what a prolific shooter DH was until Lavin began playing him 30 plus minutes a game.
Listen we need shooters, sombody who can put the ball in the f--kn basket. I would play Borgault 30 minutes a game. What do we have to lose at this point? Let's see what the kid can do!!!!

Marco has been too hesitant to shoot; I've been rooting for this kid. Haven't seen many picks set up for him. It seems that teams are aware of his shooting ability by overplaying him similar to the defense against Novak of the Knicks. He should the first off the bench against a zone defense.

He's hesitant to shoot because he has no space.
Why doesn't he have space? Because we don't run anything to free him up. And we don't dribble penetrate to draw defenders.

The team is just freelancing out there.[/quote

He's hesitant because he has no space because they're not running plays specifically to get him open. Also, he knows that he only has two minutes to make his mark on the game and he'll be taken out. He needs to play 30 minutes a game. I agree with that.

I also think that Branch needs to play 30 minutes a game and needs to be playing along side D-Lo. Branch can shoot if given the chance. He needs to play enough minutes where he feels comfortable and can get into the flow of the game. The same for Marco.

I would start Branch, Harrison, Bornagault, Pointer and Obepka. I would start Pointer because of his intensity on both offense and defense. He has been rebounding well also. Greene, Sampson and Garrett would get minutes.
Balamou and Jones would be my two minute first half guys and then based on their play I would see where that went. But I would make sure to get Balamou and Jones at least a couple of minutes because I want them to develope because both could be quality 4 year players down the road.

I think he is hesitant because it seems when he is on the court the 1st thing he does wrong he is ripped off the court for the rest of the game. He has to know he has support of the team and coaching staff to do his thing. I think the kid can do what few others on the court have shown and that is to shoot the ball.

Branch has the ability to do so and did so on Saturday...Unfortunately, the open shot opportunities he created were wasted as a # of our guys passed up wide open shots...Would like to see Bourgault in the game with him

Why are you making sense?

Like in past years, this St Johns team cannot throw the basketball into an ocean if they tried. Bourgault can shoot, and most of our team cannot. He should play more IMO. There's been games when we have starved for offense while he sits there on the bench.

if you noticed, in the wanings moments of the ND game with the game in the balance, Lavin inserted Marco to inbound with us inbounding under the ND basket. My guess is that the play was wired to inbound and then get it back to Marco who would be fouled.

If that's not a show of confience in Marco, or at the very least show that he isn't forgotten, I don't know what is (besides major minutes). He'll get his chance and it's a matter of what he does with it. Also a matter of how well and hard he plays in practice.

You know how many FT's Marco has attempted this year?

The same amount as me.

I checked his stats before I added this. We have to assume he is a lights out shooter in practice, or else Lavin wouldn't have had the confidence in him to insert him there. In any event, a coach who has concluded a guy can't help his team doesn't put him in against ND, in the Garden, with the game on the line. I thought it was scary, as the guy wasn't in the flow, had sat since the early moments of the game, etc. etc. Whether it was a smart move or not, it showed confidence in Marco, and that could go a long way in how Marco performs going forward.

Actually he could not inbound the ball, called timeout and then when play resumed Branch inbounded. I hope Marco gains confidence and figures out how to get comfortable shooting again, clearly he has a sweet stroke.

I would gather he's a good FT shooter as well. But we haven't seen him in games like that before yet this year. Lavin tried for the Rutgers game I believe but he was too late putting him in.

Great call Moose. Marco was running up to the scorers table in the RU game. Made that comment at my seats. Coach needs to work him in slow and he needs to keep firing them up. We do desperately need an outside threat along with Harrision. Branch looks like he has a decent stroke and should look for his shot from outsie the arc. Phil, very streaky.

He replaced Chris O, as soon as nd fouled Chris O came back in Marco saw about 5 seconds. Don't know who else he could have put in then.

So, how many?

Branchs strength is from 18 .and in going to the rim and passing

Impressive!

I think too many have soured on Bourgault because of the impossible situation he was placed in last season. Minutes will be extremely tough to come by this time around, but it takes most JUCOs a year to adjust to the speed, size, and athletic ability of the D-1 game. He had no idea what to prepare for heading into last year, but this year he does. I would not be shocked to see him make a big improvement.

Think Hooper is wearing off on him, Marco realizes he isn't the only "sharp-shooter" on the team. For those interested, check out Max Hooper on twitter, he has been putting upwards of 80%. Hopefully we can get these guys into "catch n shoot" opportunities- that will be the key as I believe each of them will have trouble creating their own shot.

Would be interesting to see D'Lo's numbers...

Marco has a lot to prove. HE had ample opportunity to show he could light it up, but there was no evidence that he is a lights out shooter. LAst season I maintained that he is a fundamentally sound player with a good grasp of basketball. HOWEVER, if he is to see serious minutes, he has got to put the ball in the hole consistently when he is open. Without that he is just an unremarkable big guard who cannot shoot.
