Marco Bourgault

Welcome aboard Marco!!! If we signed Hooper also wouldn't he have to sit out next year anyway? Couldn't we use both.

Correct

Hey Moose, isn't Hooper a couple of inches taller also, 6'7 vs 6'5? Seems like Marco is more of a two guard and Hooper more of a small forward?

Haven't seen either in person but seems Hooper might be a little bigger and more SF where as Marco has some 2G in him

Love the two new commits! Question about Marco will he be used like Novak on the Knicks? A great sharpshooter but a liability on the defensive end? or is this guy an athlete and not just a shooter?

Looks like a pretty good athlete to me and he's very skilled. I would think his aggressiveness would be a better concern that his athleticism.

Very good pickup. I think he'll surprise people that think he's just a package deal type player. He's not. Tremendous value add by Lav.

According to Rivals Bourgault signed his LOI today and is the first St. John's 2012/2013 Recruit to do so.

Good stats when you consider that it was his first year and he played on a team with five scorers, inlcuding two guards that launched.

It's typical for a Juco freshman to add six, seven, or more points to that average as a soph. Of course, I don't think Bourgault is an alpha scorer (I love that term now). He looks like a protoypical swingman on the offensive end. He's got enough skill and savvy to allow him to move around faster than better athletes--especially when he has the ball in his hands. I think this is a very, very good pickup. One of the things I liked about Bourgault was the way he knew that defenses had to respect his shot and he made an effort to create space for his teammates by forcing his man to extend. Guys like Branch, Greene, Garrett, and Harrison will be tough to stop taking their man off the bounce on the same side. You can't leave your man to help or it's a three ball.

We are going to be a tough team to zone with him and 3'Angelo on the court with the improved shooting of Greene and Garrett.

associate a-d at monroe tells me marco is not really 6'6"...it's a stretch. on the bright side, he's never seen anyone with a better three point shot..over 40 percent when defended...behind screens, he's unstoppable. he also knows how to keep the ball in play on misses so teammates can mop up. he's articulate, friendly and a super addition to any team.

So would he be penciled in as SG more likely? Guess it all depends on opp etc..

I see him for a few minutes and wondering if anyone can comment on his short appearances. Do they run any plays, with picks or screens for him?

No. They don't do anything different while he's out there. The last few games or so, he has just gotten a token 2 minutes out there and is yanked never to see the floor for the remainder of the game.

One of the most confusing things about this year has been Lavin's refusal to put Branch and Bourgault on the court with each other. I'm a believer that Branch's dribble penetration would give Bourgault some open looks from the outside.

Noticed this as well.

I'd like to see Bourgault given enough time to show what he's got.

He's always under pressure to do something and do it in a hurry which is counterproductive.

"Give him his release" seems to imply that he's asked for one.

Not really mutual if he doesn't want to leave though, is it?

Why he yanked after 1 min. At this point give him a chance. We are offensively challenged. If he makes some 3s might free up DLO.
