Marco Bourgault

Impressive!

I think too many have soured on Bourgault because of the impossible situation he was placed in last season. Minutes will be extremely tough to come by this time around, but it takes most JUCOs a year to adjust to the speed, size, and athletic ability of the D-1 game. He had no idea what to prepare for heading into last year, but this year he does. I would not be shocked to see him make a big improvement.

Agree. Marco isn't an unserviceable player. He is a decent athlete with a good handle and IQ. He also has a nice stroke. He won't get big minutes, but will be used when we are in need of shot making. I thought Bourgault and Hooper also looked solid in our zone, and pretty comfortable in their defensive rotation. I like our team makeup this season.

Marco knows basketball, that's for sure. The problem is that there isn't much room for a player of his caliber not to come in a drain shots. HE has to bebe patient enough to touch the ball a few times before launching a shot, but to stay on the court has to be able to consistently nail wide open looks.

If Marco can get a little more consistent with his shot I think he can overtake Hooper as the sniper on this team. Marco's a much better ball handler and rebounder from what I've seen so far than Max.

Problem is, last year Marco was a shooter who didn't hit enough shots. But I do think overall he has more basketball skills than Max. Thing is, if Max can stand still and get his shot off.. there's value in that alone.

Unfortunately a bit of a catch-22 for Marco, but that's where he needs to earn his bread. Southerland came back last season during the Cuse game after suspension, and drove a dagger into us in that game. Turned the momentum squarely in Cuse's favor. He did it in a lot of games. If our "shooters" need too long to get warmed up, then they're not really filling the role we need them in.

Slow release and slow footed.

He should be the last man off the bench.

I agree that he is slow footed and has a slow release. Defenders were able to close out on him quickly and disrupt his shot last year. I'm hoping that a year later, he will have caught up to the speed of the game at this level. My observation regarding his shots that it spins too much. Good shooters seem to have the ball rotate about three times from when it leaves there hand to when it reaches the basket. His seems to spin way too much. Any contact with the rim causes it to spin out. The extra motion that causes the spin also throws the shot off just a bit.

I never go to their site ( mainly because my head can only hold a limited amount of new website info unless it's porn ) but I have to say when people put the links up here to there articles I do enjoy reading them and they put some pretty good statistical research in their articles that you don't see in the newspapers

I agree. Nothing against Marco but I think its pretty clear he is not a big east player and dont see any way he takes Max's minutes. Wouldn't mind being wrong and seeing him have an impact though

Agreed. I don't think guys like Hooper and Marco can wait too long to get into the flow, but what I was referring to is a tendency from these types of subs to launch up a shot the very first time they touch the ball. All I was suggesting is a couple of touches before shooting, which often results in a better shot. Last season at least, if Marco was lucky enough to get the ball when open, if he passed up a shot, wasn't too likely to get the ball back. But Marco and Max pretty much are in the game to make open shots - without either hitting a high percentage of their shots, the bench awaits.

He's got a beautiful release on his shot, my only negative thought is that he could more arc on his shot, as has been noted above.
