ESPN, with their BPI Matchup Predictor, gives us a 93.2% chance of victory tonight, FWIW.

Yeah, I know, some of you don't like it when I start pulling those numbers out, but it gives us something to talk about around here.
KenPom is 98%. Predicted score is 86-63.

93% seems too low honestly. 7% chance this board goes into pure chaos? Not happening. KenPom's 98% seems far more likely.

Let’s get it!
I think this team is going to be much better then a lot of the experts think. Look how well they played down the stretch last year with a 6 man team even beating Butler without Ponds
They lost three of their last four reg season games and after a rousing tourney win against GTown got blown out by Xavier to end the season. When I think of last year's team the phrase will be, "We'll always have the first half of February".

That was a tough road with Xavier being about the worst matchup after getting beaten up by the dogs. Iron man minutes took their toll and they had run out of gas.

No doubt but to say they finished strong last year reg season or BET is taking it a bit far.

Yeah, it was a very frustrating and disappointing season, but the undermanned team showed tons of grit--even during that woeful 11 game 'sweep-out'.
And didn't the team win 6 of its last 10 games, playing a couple without Ponds?
This year should be far different.
Let's hope!

Let's put it this way...Loyola is picked last in the PATRIOT league. Unless our guys are fooling around...or our frosh get plenty of burn...this should be a 30 point win.

St. John's had an excellent end to last season. I don't really think that should be debated.

Finished 6-4

Wins (using KenPom):
#1 Nova (NCAA Champion)
#3 Duke (NCAA winner)
#20 Butler (NCAA winner)
#53 Marquette (NIT winner)
#94 Georgetown
#99 DePaul

Losses:
#15 Xavier (NCAA winner)
#26 Seton Hall- OT (NCAA winner)
#53 Marquette (NIT winner)
#63 Providence (NCAA participant)

How is that not an excellent finish? If the NCAA solely looked at how they finished, they'd be not only in the NCAA Tournament but also a high seed. If you guys are going to talk margins, then also talk about margins during their 11 game losing streak.

I guess excellent and end are both relative terms. Whatever.

St. John’s starters:
Shamorie Ponds
Justin Simon
Mustapha Heron
LJ Figueroa
Marvin Clark

Not totally surprised given Loyola’s line-up. Still, my thought was that Keita would start and that LJ would be brought off the bench. First game of many, I’m sure different combinations will be tried as we move forward.

A very nice starting five. We are fortunate. Now need the team to perform. We shall see. Could be a very satisfying and long overdue season. Hope so.

No TV coverage here in NC. I'll be checking ESPN box score and redmen.com while watching the election results. Let's go Johnnies!

I hope the freshmen get plenty of burn. Only way to get better is with experience.
