Louisville

BOTE, last year Phil averaged just under 1 more assist per game than DLo but Greene was playing the point so of course that's to be expected. The real point is that Phil is not a natural point. Last year I think most were giving him the credit for playing out of position which was necessary on a 6 man team with 2 guards. This year folks aren't as forgiving but Phil didn't construct the roster. That said if you looked at stats alone the only thing you'd come away with about Phil is he's not a great shooter. His assist to TO ratio is good because he really doesn't give the ball away and he's an adequate rebounder. But he, and really STJ's entire offense lacks creativity. In a situation with no Branch there really is no other option and I agree some of the criticism is way out of bounds. Phil was supposed to be the backup 2G last year and should have been this year as well but the roster upheaval has turned his role from 10-12 mins per game player to 30+ Not his fault.

Fair analysis on your part. I would agree that even Branch isn't the ideal point. I just don't see shredding a guy who isn't a point, never was a point, yet is playing the point. It's not like he makes a ton of bonehead passes, or can't get the ball upcourt under pressure. I think he would be a terrific backup 2G on a ranked team.

After losing to Syracuse, our RPI has improved several slots up to 53 and our SOS has bolted to 18.

Can you imagine what a WIN would do for us tomorrow?!

Let's go guys, this is the signature win the committee is looking for.

It's true. Cuse would be nice to have taken, but 1/2 of these games is huge. Louisville is really our last hope to truly show everyone we are a team that can surprise people in the NCAA tourney. There is still good news if we lose however...Marquette and Pitt keep climbing rankings, so we will have a few more cracks at very nice wins. #14 Cincy, #20 ND, #15 Pitt (something around there), and UConn is a nice little resume. Of course we would still have to ensure wins vs. teams like USF, Providence, etc. just to stay on the bubble.

Ball Boy in for Greene at PG? Might be a upgrade.

Lawman fans report on BE stats are not surprising. We are a seriously flawed team that doesn't do any of the basic principles of BB well. Without Sampson playing at a level that has him in the NBA first round, we are competing with the bottom tier of the conference

Winning against L'ville at home is likely impossible and they will be a hungry/angry team after losing to ND IN A HISTORIC GAME.

No Lavin, No Branch= No way...ON second thought, No way even with both of them.L'ville is a team capable of regrouping in the late season under Pitino and still be in NCAA Title contention.

I don't know where/what all this Greene bashing is about. Las tseason he ahd 1.5 x as many assists as the second best playmaker on the team (Harrison), and turned the ball over only 57 times compared to our stars, Harrison and Harkless turning the ball over 69 and 80 times respectively.

The guy is not a pure point, so expecting him to run a crisp offense is really not in his toolbox. He hits big shots, has a decent outside shot, and is a slasher to the hoop who picks his spots well.

I just hate when our fans take a guy apart, when if you've seen when one of our glorious fans are picked for those silly on court competitions, most high school girls have better form and basketball skills. I'm not attacking you, but geez, give the kid a break.

Agree that he has been asked to play a position that he is just not equipped to do...nice player but he absolutely should not be taking 13-15 shots per game...he is not a decent shooter...decent shooters make most wide open 15 footers...he does not...needs to be in slash mode which, I agree, is his strength

Come on folks. Beating Louisville with this team... No way. We watch every game and know how this team matchs up against Louisville - we don't. "NFW". I'll take us and the 20 points in a bet though.

We'll compete against providence and so Florida giving us probably 9 wins if we play hard against these 2 (not certain though). Maybe win one more putting us at 10 but that would be a reach.

I'll root like heck but realistically we looking at NIT, and one win in BE tournament iF we lucky.

More depressing though is possibility oF our best player opting for NBA and no one to fill the void next year.

Could be worse, we could be seton hall rIght now.. They are in a rough spot this year and next...

Why not? Too many people talk about matchups and probabilities just let the kids play before you jump to conclusions its so annoying.

Do I expect a Win? No. Can it happen? YES. If you think it's totally impossible, why bother following the team? This is Big East basketball...anything can happen on any given night. A win in Lousiville would hardly shock the basketaball world. It would just be another day in the Big East.

Lighten up and root like hell for these kids to win! It's what college sports is all about.

Amazing that Steve, sadly has missed more games coaching St. John's in three years than Boeheim has missed in thrity.

I'll be interested in seeing if we play man against Louisville. Smith and company can eat us alive with our porous zone defense. I would expect Obekpa to start against their biggies. Pretty confident that we can beat their press but have to get back on defense to prevent their fast break. Go Redmen!

you hit the nail on the head... the reason why i dont like him and dont trust him is because he takes wayyyyy to many shots that he shouldnt, if hes running the point and he is good at assists then stick to that, that would be a decent poing guard for our needs... averaging more assists than points a game and cutting down on the unnecessary and ugly shots, would be helping us alot more than he is right now. yes, he does get hot once in a while but he still takes more shots and ugly shots that he shouldnt. Stick to what you are good at, pass the ball.

Louisville is a beatable team. Their outside shooting is way too erratic as is their best player so they can be picked off on any night. If Smith is hot we'll lose if not we can beat them. I'd pack in the zone and make them beat us from outside. If we get the bad Russdiculous and handle the press we win
