Lobster rolls etc

Not a big lobster roll guy, but I'm told the Dock House in Sag Harbor has good ones. I like the other food there, and clawbiance seems decent, though eating at the parklet across the street offers a better water view.

Yes
btw
Dock Side rents from the American Legion - it is in AmLeg building
Worth the visit to town even if not into LRs
There's a way to commute - a feel - never the Thursday night before a 'big' weekend
give a holler if you're out this way
:)

gotta go to Maine for the best lobster roll. Sorta like Pizza in NY. Any little, local place will beat the pants off of anything elsewhere.

Is that really true? Are the water temps so much colder in Maine or is the environment different as those the LI baymen catch? Are the diets different? I think the key factor is FRESH lobster, not frozen and not refrigerated. That would just about rule out anything in NYC, but not completely since they can be in tanks. I do think lobsters in tanks are stressed and that can affect taste.

It's definitely true. I lived in Maine for several years (in the summer McDonalds will even do a Lobster Roll - but I never fell for it) and have also gotten fresh lobster right from the pots North Shore. Water temp or whatever I could not say just that the proof is in the lobster.

And on City Island I think it is called "Sammy's Fish Box" no? Had one of my first dates with my wife there and always make a point to stop at City Island when I get the chance but usually go all the way to the end for the extra large fried shrimp.

here is the lobster roll I had from Sammys Fish Box

On top of mjmaherjr's comments, I'd like to add that it gets pretty crowded there, so plan accordingly Desco.

friend of mine was driving out to east hampton from nyc thursday night of memorial day weekend and it took her over 5 hours to get there

I gotta try to get my brother to fly me out there in the police helicopter. lol

Guy across the street from my parents has the right idea. Leaves his cars out there and takes train to and from Manhattan. Parks them at his mom's house closer to the city in wintertime.

Sadly, you might even hit helicopter traffic -- they come flying over the Peconic nonstop headed down toward the ocean. Man, I need to hit the lottery Friday.

Haaa. My brother does part time work for literally a billionaire flying him out to the hamptons on his days off in the guys helicopter

nice little side job and he said the guy is one of the nicest people you could meet

Damn I forgot to play power ball

The noise from helicopters and small planes heading to the Hamptons is a nuisance. If you are in the flight path they spoil the quiet and serenity of the East End. Essentially it's the 0.1% ers flaunting wealth and not caring how annoying the noise pollution is for everyone else

MJ have you checked out Kerber's Farm Stand right in your own Huntington backyard? Also next time you're on the North Fork try Alure in Southold, it's one of Tom Schaudel's restaurants, call for a reservation and ask for a table outside with a view of the marina and Peconic Bay, beats the pants off any of the Greenport places.

I don't know how anyone feels about lobster in mac and chesse but the Macbar in NYC does a good one.

So if Google really has inside info, Monasch wasn't so much as fired as being released. If Bobby wanted him out the door he would have been immediately gone. Monasch for his part, has showed up with Chris Mullin around town at various events, so if this separation was contentious, he would not have been so visible over the past few weeks.

As for Monasch, (has there been an official announcement yet?), I give him a lot of credit for going out with Mullin to promote the program and school even as he knew he was gone.

Monasch was still being paid. His duty was to be around.

You sound like an East End native or at the very least a homeowner on the north side of the South Fork. I've literally seen people at Foster Memorial Beach in Sag Harbor shaking their fists up at the sky when they fly overhead.

It has become way too much of a scene south of the highway, and gets more nauseating every summer. I love the ocean waves, but if I was filthy rich I'd be in North Haven and not in any of the Hamptons.

Not a bad guess. The wealthier people I know who could afford helicopters/private jets who still schlep it out to the east end like most of us. It just seems to be such a pretentious thing. Honestly, by the time I hit Riverhead I just relax and enjoy the rest of the trip, and would miss the wineries and farm stands if I simply took a helicopter (not that I ever would).

I don't know, the traffic can be brutal.
I hate the noise as much as anyone, but if money was no issue ... I'd rather get from manhattan to east hampton in 30mins on a Friday afternoon. That's an unbelievable convenience if you afford it.

For my money, I'd much rather get from East Hampton to Manhattan in 30, or to anywhere else. Not to mention that knowledge that the constant drone of engines destroy the bucolic nature of the east end.

I'd rather take the train to the ferry to Ocean Beach. Did both on shares as a much younger man and even then preferred the quiet and lower douche quotient on Fire Island.

Kerbers is literally almost in my backyard. I live about a mile tops north of there

Yeah I have had it. 5.5 claw rating. Problem with them is its too much like lobster salad with no definable big chunks of lobster. It's almost like they put it in blender but they do use a potato roll which I like and since it's so close to my house and I literally drive by it every day on my way home from work the clawvenience of it is nice. We like going there on the weekends sometimes to get their cheddar biscuit with egg which is delicious

Alure is actually on my list of places I plan to go this summer. Someone else gave it a good review also so now with your rec I will definitely try it soon and I didn't know there were tables outside so big thumbs up for that and it will help the rating because of the clawbiance

Here is a pic of their lobster roll at kerbers

All good insights though
one doesn't have to be "filthy rich", rich, somewhat rich to reside in North Haven village just across the Sag Harbor bridge - there are some everyday people still around - I know a few... :)
(for those not familiar with the area Long Island's East End/ "the Hamptons" is like a fish tale top is north fork bottom being the so-called south fork - and Sag Harbor is on the north coast of the south fork...confusing I know...if you wants to see traffic, hear horns hunk, middle fingers rising, HBP, arguments visit only May through Labor Day when angry " tourists" arrive - sorry for being long winded - thank God we got a rich diversion from summer stress with SJU BBall!)
