Lavin's Future in Doubt at SJU

Other than Howland (yes I admit it is a big one) all the other names mentioned are available.

I think the Hurleys (for example) may know through the million basketball contacts they have, that official news on Lavin not being brought back is coming very soon.

Why hasn't Bobby taken the DePaul job yet? Much the same reason Howland did not want it, because that job is worse than SJU's.

Hopefully part of the reason is that he is waiting to see if the SJU job becomes available.

Great posts by 1512, I think SJU would be in good shape with Miller or either Hurley. They just have to pull the trigger.

Do you really think Archie Miller, and more importantly his wife will fit into the NYC landscape coming from Dayton, Ohio? I have my doubts! Who wants to live and raise a family in NY anymore? As was mentioned on this board before, I think most coaches wives prefer a college town environment! But who knows, MONEY TALKS!

Me, and thousands upon thousands of other young families. You couldn't pay me enough money to live and raise my kids in Ohio. I prefer the diversity, opportunity, and reality of NYC, Queens in particular.

But on the opposite side...

Myself, and thousands upon thousands of other young families would never even consider moving to NYC. Give me Ohio any day of the week. I prefer my 5 minute drive to the office every day. I prefer the quieter, simpler life.

Totally fair, to each their own. I guess I didn't appreciate the posters' "who wants to live and raise a family in NY anymore" as if he was typing his post while having coffee with Morty and Helen Seinfeld at Del Boca Vista talking about how NY is not what it used to be. Queens is whatever you want to make it for yourself, and that goes for any coach who is potentially coming here. That's a positive, not a negative.

This is like the final episode of Sons of Anarchy. You knew it was not going to turn out ok for anyone in the end, but at least it is entertaining

How else would they have handled it? a decision the day after elimination? The relentless negativity on this board is borderline macabre. You part ways with him only if you are reasonably confident there is a better candidate willing to come. in order to ascertain that, this process would have had to have started a few months back , when the fate of this year's team was unknown.

What is interesting is how much of a factor the Obekpa situation (10 days old) was. So if he plays, they beat San Diego State and get blown out by Duke, is the school even having this conversation?

Very peculiar set of circumstances.

I will agree the longer this goes one, at least in terms of public acknowledgement that Lavin's status is in fact being reviewed internally, the harder it will be to "reconcile".

By the end of the week the SJU AD will announce he is forming a committee to name a committee which will consider candidates for the head coaching position if there is an opening.

If you live south of the Cleveland area (which has made a nice comeback, thank you), welcome to genetic pool issues from your neighbors . Civilization lost.

The biggest proof that posters are preparing for big news, is the calm surrounding this site. There was no such lag in posts yesterday.

Reading that DePaul article where they hired a professional search firm, I can only hope we do the same though I doubt we do

We have to first choose a committee who will decide which search firms will be interviewed. Than another committee will have to be chosen to interview the search firms which have been identified. Then.......

Not extending Coach Lavin will be a major mistake by St. John's.
20 win seasons 2 NCAA 2 NIT.
Recruiting top 75 players.
Able to recruit Nationally to Jamaica Queens.

We need stability not a revolving door every 5 years.

Look around the Metro area Seton Hall, Rutgers, Fordham. Right now I think we have are a step ahead of them do we really want to put ourselves in the starting over again group?

Syracuse has NCAA issues UConn in a bad conference.St. John's has an opportunity to take a step to being an elite school again. coach Lavin is the man to take us there.

I'd tend to agree if our outlook for next year looked similar. I have a feeling that since it's unclear, and it may actually turn out okay, that Lavin will be given one final year to prove himself. Any extension offered should not have large chunks guaranteed, or perhaps they vest if we make the tournament next year.
