Lavin parting ways with St.John's

i agree with Old School, obviously -- 21-12 is mediocre, and by that standard Lavin has had three mediocre seasons (one with Norm's players) and two less than mediocre ones.

I'm not sure what Jumbo is saying. Granted Looie has been gone a while, but I do not think it is unreasonable to expect another coach to get us to that level of success -- especially in a smaller, less difficult BE conference. We should EXPECT at least 20 wins every year, and to be in the mix near the top of the BE. That should be our minimum goal EVERY YEAR. Twenty wins is not a lot -- with a collection of low-and-mid-majors in the OOC we start with 10 wins right off the bat.

And every few years we should be a 25-28 win team that really makes some noise.

Can Lavin get us there? I think he is a mediocre coach who will deliver mediocre results. So get ready for a lot of years like the last two, because I think that's as good as we're ever going to get.

If you think we are a program that is going to annually be ranked in the top 25, make runs at the final 4 every few years, and be in the same category as the Dukes and Kentuckys of the world, then you must have been hanging out with Obekpa too much.

Not trying to be a downer, it's just the reality of the situation.

My father in law can't make a decision about anything. Guess it comes from being married for so long. Simple things likme do you want to play golf. He changes his mind 20 times. Maybe he is making this decision?

Lavin should just pull a Costanza and just go out about his business as if he was extended already.

The Maven-Avon family will be right either way because the Maven reported yesterday that an extension was coming.

Ironic huh, Lavin rhymes with Maven rhymes with Avon.

True or not, , that twitter handle and thread certainly looks like the workings of a trustworthy and intelligent person.

the source is the handsome devil in the pictures on the "media" section of the account.

would not have started a separate thread had this not been very very reliable info

I have a tough time believe you and your dad since you are so anti-Lavin. When is this axe going to drop?

and wtf are you to say what SJU can be with the right coach? That right coach could have them like Villanova only better during the NCAA Tournament. That's why I want change.
With Lavin you know what you're getting, with another coach, well just maybe he's "that coach". I'm sure willing to take that chance. The reward of that risk could be so damn great.

SJU and Lavin. We can't even either fire or extend him without a soap opera level of drama. Unreal.

Mike, I have no source, I have taken that position from the beginning, and see no reason to change it now.

the only thing I can add to this, is that the current players don't know whether he's coming back or not.
