Kyle Anderson PG (UCLA)

In another not shocking decommitment, Dominic Artis a PG previously committed to UCLA, backed out. Can't help but not think Kyle verbal came into play.

Any chance we get involved Moose?

A lot of things going into the decision. Kid transferred this year to Findlay Prep - and has apparently been beaten out for the PG spot by some kid from Italy (who looks like he'll end up at Arizona).

And don't forget even before Kyle verballed, Artis was already 2nd string as a frosh - former McD AA PG Larry Drew will be playing his senior year at UCLA next season.

So several factors - Ben Howland has now acknowleged he'll be giving Kyle a shot at the PG spot (as well as other positions - early in the recruting process that wasn't going to be an option), Larry Drew is in for his senior year. Kyle has tweeted a couple of 2013 prospects about playing with THEM - indicating he's thinking MORE than one and done. And UCLA is a wide leader for the west coasts top 2013 PG Zach Lavine (being referred to as the 2nd coming of Steph Curry). Artis may already feel recruited over....

Artis still says UCLA is his favorite, so who knows. If Lav's wasn't heading to the hospital tho, that would be a call worth making. Despite it all, Artis IS the real deal - a chance to be a better ballhandling Nate Robinson...(Bruin fans keep saying another Tyus Edney, but Artis is going to be much physically stronger than Edney)...And I REALLY think SJU needs a PG in the 2012 claass....

I wouldnt be surprised at all if we do go after the kid. Top tier PG at this stage would be a great get. Would be another perfect story for SJU as a kid that was edged out at UCLA and playing under Lavs on the East coast.

I would of thought that most of you wouldn't want Artis to come here
Why? I'd be happy as a clam if he comes here. :side:

Because most STJ fans (myself included) are clammoring for frontcourt help before another guard joins the fray.

Couldn't care less what ORDER we sign our next 6 scholarship players. Long as it's all done by Sept 2012....

I know alot of fans didn't like Jevon Thomas leaving implying that he was scared of playing time and in a way Artis did the same thing

Yes Except Jevon was unranked, and Dom Artis is #60 (with a bullet) in the RSCI rankings. Prepstars has him up into the top 50 (#47) already, and climbing.  Kid's already ranked ahead of Pitt's James Robinson, Texas's Javan Felix and Baylor's LJ Rose at PG.

Its not the way I feel, if he wanted to come here I would gladly take him but many others have ripped kids who decommit from a school especially when its because the player is getting over shadowed.

cr - by end of season, passing Jackson, Calhoun and Paige?

Does anyone think with all the drama surrounding UCLA early this kid reconsiders down the road?

Ben Howland: Speaking of UCLA, Howland didn't exactly come down with an iron fist when dealing with troublesome forward Reeves Nelson, who was "suspended indefinitely" last week because of attitude issues. Nelson's suspension lasted just one game. Then, a few days after his return, Nelson missed the team bus that took the Bruins to the airport for their flight to Maui, so he was forced to travel to the island on his own. His punishment? Howland sat him for the first half of UCLA's opening game against Chaminade.

He cant. He signed and mailed his LOI. Only way is if Howland was canned, often the school releases kids. I still doubt he'll be canned, but UCLA does funny things with successful coaches. I wouldn't be surprised.

JBC stars reveal their No. 2 schools

Kyle Anderson
St. Anthony (Jersey City, N.J.), G/F
Signed to: UCLA
The school that came in second for me was …
“Seton Hall. I’ve never told anyone this, but this is crazy. Exactly a week before I chose UCLA I had decided that I was going to Seton Hall. It was a done deal. Then I had another talk with my family the next day and I felt like it was UCLA. If UCLA didn’t exist I’d be at Seton Hall, no question. I just couldn’t turn down [UCLA], the tradition, the weather, the beach, all the pros that play there in the summer. Plus I’m cool with Russell Westbrook and Kevin Love, just everything about it. And I mean, c’mon, it’s L.A.!”

What Kyle, no comment about the science program or the business school..shocking !!

Kyle looked terrible. He was only credited in the box score with 3 turnovers but he really caused at least 7.

That whole him playing PG nonsense is a fiasco. And his father had ripped Ben Howland for him not playing PG prior to the game (interview on zags blog). Well Kyle went out there and stunk up the joint.

He looked nowhere near the Top 4 prospect in the nation. Jordan Adams looks for real though.

And Otto Porter of Georgetown looks like a lottery pick this year.

It's still early in the season, so I'm gonna give him a pass. I watched the majority of the game, and like I thought, UCLA has a hodgepodge group. You have guys like Muhammad and Drew, while you have guys like the Wear brothers, Josh Smith (who just seems like a waste) and Kyle Anderson.

They are a big team, but they are softer than Charmin. This is basically the same team, with the exception of the freshmen, that we beat last season with 5 freshmen and Gift. I think Muhammad and Adams are gonna be okay when all is said and done, but Anderson might take a little longer.

Anderson made a handful of nice passes, but his offensive game was practically invisible. I read some posts from a UCLA board, and a few posters stated they've never seen a 6'8" player get blocked, as many times Anderson has been swatted, so far, this season. He's gonna have trouble with much athletic guys, so he and Howland will have to adjust in some way, shape or form. For starters, Anderson is gonna have to get stronger. He's also gonna have to shoot it better from deep (although, he improved from outside from his junior to senior seasons in high school).

I think this UCLA team will win games because I'm not enthralled with the Pac-12. I, and MCN has always thought this UCLA team would be a paper tiger (no offense, crgreen). Once again, it's still early, but I still believe that is gonna be the case.

Porter could very, well be a lottery pick. If Whittington continues at his pace, he could also find himself drafted in the 1st round after this season. We're talking about 6'8" or 6''9" stretch forward-type. He's similiar to Porter.

He really looks methodical, like he labors to make a move. I know guys on this board were saying that he's slow and I agree. He's scoring tonight, but it's not pretty. Clearly UCLA is not the 11th best team in the country right now, and it looks like they have a long way to go. Kyle is going to need to adjust to the college level much better than he has, or this team is not going anywhere. We know he has talent, so it will be interesting to see if he can show it and make this team better.
