Kudos to the Coaching Staff

Not getting the King Joffrey reference, but yes to everything else. :)

Took me a while to get that too but I think he is saying that Freudenberg looks like the most hated child on HBO:

As bad as this year will be at least I have hope. Toward the end of Norm I literally had no hope for the program. Say what you want about Lavin but he restored hope immediately and even at the end a lot of people still had hope.

On to better things. Next season can't come soon enough. Time to land King Joffrey

King Joffrey is a game of thrones reference. Freudenberg looks like an older version of king joffrey from game of thrones who was one of the most despised tv characters of all time. The kid who played him was brilliant

Exactly :)

The staff knows someone is not retuning

Jones can transfer after this year without having to sit. Not saying he is going to do that, but that is the most logical spot to look for a transfer.

The staff is under no obligation to invite Jones back after he graduates.

I'd guess Jones won't be back. We will have Yakwe, Owens, a hopefully healthy Williams, and Freudenberg possibly for that forward spot. Jones is improved, but he will have a tough time getting much burn next season. It would likely be best for the kid to do a grad year at a place slightly lower level and be in immediate contributor. He's done a nice job of improving himself as a player and is very serviceable at this point. I never thought that would happen. I still think he will be gone and the new blood ushered in.

I don't think Jones will be forced out, but I would like to see him somewhere where he can play 30 mpg. If he likes NYC, I'd love to see him at St. Francis or LIU.

If he's looking to go back home, I'd love to see him at Stephen F. Austin.

I'd love to see Jones playing for st johns next year helping us get to the NCAA's. Whether that be 5 minutes off the bench or 25 minutes as a starter, hes proven he can play. Why not take a kid back who A. has shown he can help and B. is seemingly a good teammate and coachable kid.

Why not Incarnate Word over Stephen F. Austin? Incarnate Word has a nice team and seems to be well coached.

SFA has been a decent program for a while now. The first time I'd ever heard of Incarnate Word was a few weeks ago.

Wait a sec, I thought it was the NCAA that raked in millions and didn't care about kids and their welfare and future. And that it was the coaching staffs (at least the righteous ones like ours) that did.

But if we were to jettison Jones because Prospect C may have more promise... well that would mean every part of collegiate athletics is rotten to the core, even a sanctified coaching staff.

And I just cannot stand here in the heart of Mullenville and accept that. Our program would never do such a thing.

agreed.

i find it ridiculous how posters here shit on kids for transferring, or smoking weed, and whatnot, but then act like NFL GMs when playing fantasy roster games with students who agreed to come here. Honor his scholarship and roster spot, period.

And sorry, why CJ and not one of the "lighter" players, and I ain't talkin' weight. But I don't see Amar's name being played with in this manner. Not saying he should, just an observation.

Yeah, I put it out there. Tough shit. This site was too scared to have a conversation about whether or not SJU should land a Black assistant and deleted that post, but carpet bombing Muslims posts are allowed to thrive.

CJ should not be a roster throwaway because of other talent, this ain't the pros. Why should CJ red shirt a year, or finish a degree elsewhere, just because some of you think it's a good idea?

peace.

Thankfully staff not recruiting Tyrion Lannister look alike.

Amar wasn't brought up because he would have to sit out a year if he transferred. CJ would be a grad transfer and wouldn't have to sit out, which is why it is common for players in that situation to finish off their careers at a different school (like Durand and Ron).

I think most posters here are way beyond thinking of our players as of a certain color. I had to think hard as to whether we had a black assistant, and Zendon came to mind. Then I had to think hard as to the composition of Lavin's staff, or even the AD.

If CJ is not offered a spot on the roster as a graduate student, it will be because the staff feels there won't really be a spot for him in the rotation. GG was offered a spot as a graduate student, and race played no part in it. Just that he could play a little.

It's pretty much nonsense to bring race into this picture when discussing our staff or composition of the roster.

Nobody is suggesting jettisoning CJ. Just speculation about where a scholarship might come from. His PT will drop a ton next year most likely. He can definitely help us off the bench a bit but he could also play a lot more as a grad transfer somewhere else ala Durand.

Nonsense; Jones deserves to keep his scholarship if he wants it regardless what the staff thinks about his potential PT. I for one would be shocked if Mullin made such a decision arbitrarily. I believe he will do the right thing and present the situation and respect whatever decision Jones makes - whether to return and fight for PT or leave. As for Sleek's comments, I agree with his comment about pulling the assistant coach thread but disagree that the comments about Jones without Alibegovic was race motivated in any way; different circumstances.

Interesting that you would cite race as a factor regarding a team with no white players on the roster. The two "light" guys are Italian, if you think they're white you should watch True Romance, Dennis Hopper disagrees with you.

CJ's decision belongs to CJ based on his discussions with the staff. A greater concern in terms of player welfare may be William's injury and if what has kept him sidelined is a chronic condition or a re-injury that may continue to be disabling. Are we looking at another Rob Thomas situation where STJ kept faith with the student but recognized that the student was injured to the point of not being able to play any more.

Do you know in general what the policy for most schools is for players that have unused eligibility but have graduated? I thought the school's obligation to a scholarship player ends at graduation. Is it automatic that a kid gets a 4 year ride, graduates, but is automatically asked back regardless of value to the team? Not contesting what you are saying, just asking you and others.
