Kudos Posh

In a very strange way, I think NR favored undersized less talented guards, giving guys who were just like himself as a player a shot at performing at this level.   That may be why he started Boothe over Hardy, which looking back, was ridiculous.

Yes, I meant raw physicial strength.

What is so encouraging with Posh is how well he is playing as a freshman point guard in a high major conference like the Big East. If you look at several of the leading point guards in the league (Gillespie, Zegaroski & Scruggs plus Duke who is kind of a combo guard) they all showed significant improvement from freshman to sophomore year and there is no reason to think Posh won't show similar improvement. That, coupled with similar freshman to soph improvement from Wusu, continued improvement from Champ, expected senior leadership from Greg, Marcellus & Josh and decent contributions from our new guys, particularly Pinzon, makes me optimistic for next year. As far as this year goes, I just want to see continued improvement in the team playing together; would especially like to see improvement from Cole & Moore over the last 11 games as they adjust to Div 1 play.

Nice to anticipate Posh & Julian being elite Big East players next season on heels of outstanding progress this year. Julian if he sustains current pace will certainly get BE first team consideration and Posh right there for top Freshman award. Amazing progress & tip of the hat to MA & staff for getting these two. Their chemistry is also great. Next season could be a lot of fun with an additional piece or two and suspect Pinzon could be one.

But people keep telling me we don't have anyone who would start for any other team.  /media/kunena/emoticons/silly.png

What I love about Posh is his physical readiness to compete.  He's strong and can bully most Pg's with his physicality.  He plays like a PF when he's around the hoop which most others don't do.  That creates some of his steal opportunities and fast breaks because most guards don't follow him in there, they linger on the perimeter.

On one hand speaks to individual accomplishment & the other a team void, net of Posh

Wild St. John's stat: Posh Alexander is second on team in offensive rebounds with 26. Only two behind team leader Isaih Moore with 28. #sjubb

The only "negative" about Posh this year is NOT being able to see him play in person.  I really enjoy every thing I see on TV but the focus on him is peripheral.  His intensity off the action is not seen.  I want to sit in CA and just focus on Posh to really appreciate his full game, not just the TV "highlights".  His ability to sense where a ball is going and to place himself just so; his incredible energy; his never giving up.  Can't wait for Nov. 2021 and hopefully attendance at games again.  I can only imagine him stepping up another notch to the sound of a Real Crowd (not that he is dogging it in the sterile Covid areanas of 2020/21).  PS--love starting 3 Brooklyn Guys!

You know, there is so much to like about him but for me I LOVE the fact that he just PLAYS and PLAYS HARD. No demonstrations after a good play, no sulking after a bad one, no arguing with the refs, just an old school hard nosed player. An absolute winner, someone who is already one of my favorite Johnnie players period.
And for those down on CMA's recruiting, a players star rating is fine but give me players from winning programs. We got two this year and two coming next year. It is apparent already that Alexander and Wusu are not afraid of the moment; I expect Pinzon and Traore (sp. for both?) will not be either.

The two OSL kids are fearless:

Posh Alexander on facing Villanova: "I personally feel we're going for a win. That should be our motivation for every game." #sjubb

Posh's outside shot has opened his game up big time. Hard work. We are lucky to have him.

Don't tell Ed Cooley he may have a conniption. /media/kunena/emoticons/wink.png/media/kunena/emoticons/smile.png

I'll say it again, but Posh has always had a decent shot. He's certainly worked on it, but more that he just hasn't used it much.  He was always a driver as opposed to an outside shooter.  He definitely needs to be adept and keep teams honest.

I actually think Posh will be the best pure PG we've had since Barkley.  We've had some excellent guards since then, but they have all been combo guards rather than true PGs - Hatten, Hill, Hardy, Harrison, Ponds.  Maybe I'm missing someone?

Posh, Wusu, Pinzon...
so much for our poor recruiting + our inability to keep local NYC kids home!
