Kudos Posh
For a kid that has played less than ten college basketball games, Posh is off to a damn good start. We all want to see him develop a consistent 3-point shot, but I would prioritize ball handling (it's a little sloppy in traffic) and defense. Regarding his defense....I love the tenacity and uncanny nose for the ball, but there are lapses (mostly over playing and letting the ball get by him). This will get better. He's an impressive freshman PG.
Agree and I think he reined it back in a bit last game, didn’t seem to be getting himself out of position by going for steals as much as he had been. If he sticks to that, he will continue to get his share of steals and we will get many more by being able to defend the passing lanes (a strength of last year’s team).

IMO his ball handling issue in traffic is that he favors his right hand too much. Often he gets too tricky with just his right hand. He needs to work on his left hand a bit more and that is something fixable with some drills and work.

Does favor his right quite a bit, but his left arm is the one he broke junior year.

Talked to a hoops guy who knows Posh since he played biddy ball. He noted PA has always been a winner, fierce competitor, extremely confident and historically on offense overpowered people. Obviously the kid is strong and physical, but he probably is learning the latter is tougher in a league like the Big East.

The same guy felt Posh was never a consistent outside shooter, but will improve there with work and staff guidance. I fully expect he will build on a good initial season and raise the bar next year. Quite happy to have him. An aside, Posh’s presence imo has positively impacted Julian and having played together for many years, there is something to be said for subtle chemistry.

For me it all starts with effort, and hopefully he learns and improves his game; very tough OJB training starting at PG at this level as a freshman and I can't help but root like hell for any kid who plays as hard as he does.

Good bulletin board material and should fire up Posh even more.

I can't recall too many kids who have come in to our program with the combination of talent/heart/effort that Posh brings. In his short time here, I've enjoyed watching him about as much as any player we've ever had. Really looking forward to watching him grow in coming years.

AND he wanted to stay home and play in front of his family and friends AND play for St. John's! Like Mullin, Sealy, others- imo that attitude bodes well for our program!

We've had some great defenders.

But I've never seen a kid try so relentlessly for a steal.

His ability to sneak behind big man who just got a defensive rebound, swipe it from him, and lay it up is just phenomenal. And it can be such a back-breaking, demoralizing play for the opponent.

No doubt that Cooley is a good Coach . His endorsement of his kid, Breed , is to be expected .  But , Posh has played at this pace and done well all Season . Posh also toyed with a array of UCONN Guards in the Win last week at Storrs . He basically was the Game Breaker for us in that Win . It will be exciting to see Posh vs Breed when we play them in a few weeks . Let's see what Cooley says then .  A more subtle approach , not likely from Cooley , would have been to say ,  Posh had a great week and props to him . That would have been the Classy thing to say .  I can't ever imagine Anderson saying something like that negatively about another Team's player  .

He's had a hard on for SJU for a long time now.  He lost recruiting battles to Lavin and Mullin and it didn't sit well with him.

IIRC, didn't he vote for someone other than one of our players one year for some award which his player got by one vote over our guy? The vote for the player he voted for was the only vote that player received.

May I just add that Posh and Dunn have to rank right up there with the best defensive backcourts we've ever had.

They've been better of late, but let's see consistency in staying in front of your man, not going for steals unnecessarily and most importantly cutting down dribble penetration while still playing their harassing style.  I love the effort, but as a unit they (and Williams, a good defender in his own right) were allowing far too much by way guards getting into the lane and to the bucket.  The challenge is to maintain that ball-hawking relentless style while being disciplined and fundamental in the approach.  They certainly have the ability from what I've seen to be menaces that can really impact the game on that end, aside from getting a few highlight reel steals.
