Mullin.  And by a country mile.
He did that without the benefit of a 3pt line.

Respectfully, it is a silly debate.  Different players.  Different positions.  Different strengths.  Different eras.  Both terrific and important players to their teams.

Hard to imagine a more disruptive force in college ball today. So many deer in headlights looks when he he is pestering opponents. Getting into sets is a problem in many instances, not to mention the obvious, generating turnovers. On offense he obviously improved his stroke, but the uncanny one is his work among the trees to generate points. His mental attitude is well documented, so I'll leave that alone.

Give Anderson credit for giving PA time off the bat, being patient with his shooting, decision making early and adding a paternalistic touch to his development. CMA is the ideal coach for this warrior.

Respectfully to Posh, we knew Mullin was something special before he even set foot on campus.   I was a new grad working at St. John's at the time, when walking across campusnear Alumni Hall, I spotted this tall white kid standing outside the side entrance to the gym.   I went over an introduced myself, and was taken by how polite he was and willing to chat.   He was always that way, it turned out.

We knew from day 1, that as fans, we had a front row seat to someone who would be playing in the NBA some day.   Three time BE player of the year, not only a great bottom of the net shooter, but incredible court instincts that conjured up Bird.   For his 4 years, by far a ticket to a St. John's game was the best sports value in town.   And for the record, during those four years he was every bit as popular as any pro athlete in town.

So, the comparison is completely unfair.   However, Posh and Champ are a reason to program your DVR even if you are glued to the TV just in case you miss something spectacular.   You learn quickly to keep your eye on Posh every minute he is on the court.   Watching him 2 seconds before a steal is like being a witness to a crime being planned.   Now, opponents have the luxury of a teammate screaming, "Watch out!" before he picks a pocket.   In a packed homecourt arena, they will how no such help when the volume is blowing off the roof.

Posh is no Mullin, but in no way does that diminish what he means to this team, to the St. John's "franchise", and to college basketball at large.   He is THAT good.

I absolutely love watching him play!  He plays hard and you can see him thinking on the court, we are lucky to have him.

For all the obvious things Posh does, steals, hounding defense, assists, ballhandling, the one thing that surprises me is when he gets tips, and big rebounds or put-backs among the trees without getting stuffed.

Simply amazing at his height.

He has an uncanny knack for being(putting himself) in the right place at just the right time, and coming up with big plays time and time again. Whether that's on offense, defense or on the boards.

Posh has to be one of the most unique and special players I've ever watched in college basketball. For a freshman with this type of mental toughness, composure and tenacity is something I'm not sure I've ever seen.

His work on the defensive end is simply unbelievable. He totally disrupts the game even if he's not getting steals.  His rebounding over kids way taller is unbelievable.

Just think he's only going to improve on the offensive side. His hunger and desire to be great appear to be second to none.

I understand the feedback...still...
I thought it was worth discussion...of course different players, different positions, different etas 1980s - 2020s
but are these two of our most significant freshman?
In any event - where would we be sans Posh!

Its definitely a fun conversation to have SS+G. Players have been compared across eras for as long as sports has existed. If RW feels otherwise, he ought to stay out of  it.

I know that ive never felt more confident with an sju PG throwing an alleyoop pass in my lifetime. In fact I've never felt confident at all before Posh came around.

Posh had a breakaway yesterday and instead of trying to throw down a massive dunk like he has a few times in the past, he just laid it in.  You can see the maturity in him as each game goes by.

Although I would still like to see him do it in a game.  Maybe he can bust out the windmill at the Garden next year when the crowd is there.

Posh is carving out his own Stats and setting up his credentials for his Career . They will be substantial . But , comparing him to Mullin is unfair to both . Mullin was literally the " Straw that stirred the Drink," for all 4 years . He is the best Player , ever , in St John's history . College , NBA , HOF , Olympic , etc .  Posh is very Special , let him flourish as he is doing now . Unfair Comparisons are controversial and don't highlight  the ability of either player .  It's the same as comparing Champaignie and Sealy . They are different . Their skills are their own, and superlative . Malik had explosiveness and handle that Julian doesn't . He was a McD All American and I think maybe a Second team All American his last year here . Julian is on his way to that threshold but , not just yet .

I agree.
It's unfair to compare Julian to Malik.
Malik never had the long-range shooting ability of Julian.

I really liked the commentary last night that declared Wusu our best interior passer.    This team just continues to find guys wide open for alley oop dunks, give and goes, and drive and dish.

I loved the grant-bootsy-artest era  team for passing the ball, and this type is earning stripes in that regard.

Agree and I don’t think Tarik was wrong. In fact I think as good of a passer Posh is, Wusu is the best on the team. Inbounds pass failure remarks coming in 3.2..
