Kudos For Ponds

I don't think he reached his ceiling. But his size is a problem for the NBA as a sg. If I were him, i d be playing PG.

I think that's the pitch to keep him here for a third year. Lovett will be gone and Ponds shifts over.
What will be the "pitch" to Luther and Mikey?

Mikey isn't going anywhere, so he can wait his turn at being the man for a year. Luther, I guess the pitch is ball in his hands all game if Ponds does split.

When I say he's reached his ceiling, it thought it was obvious that I meant height-wise
It's unlikely to me that he'll be 6'3" or more while in college, which seems to be the NBA norm
He can certainly improve as a player but, these days, guys his size rarely make it in the NBA
Having said that, I'm rooting like crazy to see him do it (in 2-3 years)
I agree w Paul. He is young. DLO grew 2 inches and went from 6 1 to. 6'3 between Fr. And So. years. We will see.

But overall he shrunk from the 6'4 he was listed at coming out of HS.

I am excited to see Shamorie play next season. One year at a time.

The reality is that very few basketball players are the actual height that they are listed at. In general, "shorter" guys' heights are inflated. Sometimes, big guys' heights are lowered. I remember reading an article many years ago in which former Knick Dave Debusschere said that, when he stood next to Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, he was easily a foot shorter. Since Dave was listed at 6'6", that would make Abdul-Jabbar (who was listed at 7'2") around 7'6".

The same is true for weight. Billy "The Whopper" Paultz (one of my all time favorite Johnnies) was listed at 250 lbs in his senior year. I would love to have $100 for every pound he weighed more than that. I could probably finance a pretty nice vacation with the proceeds.

Obviously Ponds is an excellent shooter, but he is so crafty driving to basket. I am sure he is getting stronger & will bring more "and1s" to table. Example;

Unfortunately cut from team, but still a nice honor to be invited. Btw, he appears to be adding weight, getting stronger.

I'm sure it's just a coincidence Calipari took every kid he's recruiting on the U-19 team.

It is fishy though. Speaking about Calipari.

Just Calapari being Calapari....and he is far from the only coach who would do the same.

Putting Calipari in charge was akin to giving the fox the keys to the hen house.

My memory is hazy, but didn't John Thompson make a high school Mourning the last cut from the Olympic team just so he could practice against the collegiate kids and have a leg up as a freshman? Wasn't illegal, but up there with Calipari-level tactics.
