Kudos For Ponds

This guy is a pleasure to watch. I can't recall the last freshman I looked forward to seeing play as much as this young guy. I'm sure there are a few, but none who come right to mind--at least in the recent enough past. And Kent, I don't include Reggie Jessie. ;)

At least you didn't mention Jason Buchanan :woohoo:

And what was wrong with Jason Buchanan? I loved that kid. Never forget the day he and Terrence Mullin came into Louie's office and requested to be moved out of their apartment in the dangerous Jamaica, Queens area..

This will be a good experience for a young player. I just hope that he stays healthy. Also, I might be a little concerned about the venue (Egypt?) for a bunch of 19 year olds.

Selfishly, this is bad for us, because I think he kicks ass there, makes the team, and then has a bunch of guys whispering in his ear.

When you think about it, he has probably reached his ceiling already. Unless he's as good as Isaiah Thomas, he probably won't make an NBA roster because of his size and he's probably already good enough right now to play professionally in Europe.

A human male can continue growing through age 21 and in some cases as old as 25 but the difference between your average 18 year old and 20 or 21 year old can be significant in terms of physical maturity especially for athletes so I would not assume anything re: Ponds' ceiling.

I don't think he reached his ceiling. But his size is a problem for the NBA as a sg. If I were him, i d be playing PG.

When I say he's reached his ceiling, it thought it was obvious that I meant height-wise
It's unlikely to me that he'll be 6'3" or more while in college, which seems to be the NBA norm
He can certainly improve as a player but, these days, guys his size rarely make it in the NBA
Having said that, I'm rooting like crazy to see him do it (in 2-3 years)

Ponds is listed at 6'1". Average height for an NBA PG as of 2016 is 6'2" believe it or not. Another interesting fact regarding NBA is that of shortest NBA players (Mugsy Bogues at 5'3" shortest) in history, the majority of them (20 shortest) have played within the past 15-20 years. Small ball is a thing...

I think that's the pitch to keep him here for a third year. Lovett will be gone and Ponds shifts over.
