Knicks

Via Wojnarowski: "Knicks are finalizing trade to send F Obi Toppin to the Pacers for two future second-round picks, sources tell ESPN. Deal gives Toppin an opportunity to play a more significant role in Indiana and stacks up more draft assets for New York. Deal can’t be completed until Thursday."

Never a fan of Donte coming to the Knicks from the beginning. But he is here, so be it.

My biggest concern is who will go, because the Knicks have too many guards and there is need for a backup 4/5 now that Rose traded Toppin (who I wish was kept).

If Quickly is the player that goes, then the Donte signing is just bad.

We tanked Obi’s trade value. What could we have gotten for a 25 year old, due for a contract extension next year, who’s never proved to be more than an offensive energy guy off the bench?

Keep him?

The Knicks pretty much just released Obi.

He was never given the minutes to show what he could do with consistent playing time and yet still produced with high energy in his limited minutes off the bench.

We had to open salary for DDV, I’d take him over Obi.

I think the FO and Thibs put Obi in a bad position from Day 1, so I think it’s a bad move from the point of bad ROI on a lottery pick. But it’s a move that had to be done at this point.

But the Knicks did not have to open salary because they did not have to take Donte. It was their choice to sign another 6-4/6-5 guard.

Now they have to move one of them to acquire a backup 4/5. If the one they move is Quickly, then the Donte move goes into the senseless category.

I would rather move Randle. He is not a #1 option. While those players are very difficult to get obviously, the Knicks are rolling with that mindset again.

I hate Randle but I don’t think we’d get good value for him.

What other MLE candidates were as attractive?

I think the plan is to have RJ/Hart be the backup 3. It’s a different league now, and I think RJ can do it. DDV brings championship pedigree from Nova and the Bucks, reliable three point shooter, and a tough defender. He’s going to help the team a lot.

IQ wants to get paid a nine figure extension. Maybe I can get on board with 5/100, but definitely not 4/100. I think DDV is a great insurance policy if IQ isn’t here next year.

Do you mean backup 4?
