Johnnies Tidbits

MJMJ, PANTHER and HAPPY, you guys sure look happy. I wish I was a fly on the window to hear the St. John's BB talk, endlessly fascinating I am sure.

Glad you guys got together and hope that your prognostications for the upcoming season ALL COME TRUE.

GW started and in 34 minutes went for 9 pts 4 rebs and 5 assists on 3-14 shooting including 2-9 from 3. Bama without 4 players including Javon Quinerly and possibly 1 or 2 other starters. Not sure who Louisiana may have been missing.

most importantly I am delighted to see that Greg is healthy and was able to play 34 minutes. The kid and his dad were both class acts at SJU and I wish them both nothing but success in the future. At SJU Greg would not have been able to play the point which he is currently doing so I even further understand his transfer which disappointed many on here. Keep up the good play Greg.

Greg was one of my favorite Johnnies and was sorry to see him go although CMA brought in lots of top replacement talent in the backcourt. Wish him only the best and hope he is able to play lots of minutes at the point with more of those highlight reel dunks. Doubt he'll have many 2 for 9 games from three. Will be interesting to follow the fortunes of all the former Johnnies this year. Even Bryan Trimble is back for his senior year with the Akron Zips.

Today is St John's Media Day per Zach B.
Press will meet with staff at 12:45 PM and will have an opportunity to watch practice
Hope to get some observations/ updates about our players and team during the day

The Athletic published an article this morning polling players in the Big East on who is the toughest to guard, toughest to score against, coach they want to play for, best arena, who will win the Big East.

Julian was voted hardest to stop, Posh was voted (tied with Obiagu) as toughest to score on, and MSG was voted the favorite arena.

In an odd vote...7 voted Nova to win the Big East...with 3 votes going to DePaul.

Players were instructed they could not vote for themselves, their school or their coach.

DePaul?
Huh

Just checked the futures line. DePaul is + 20,000. The longest shot to win the BE regular season crown. By comparison Nova is favored at -155. St John’s is 4th at +1,200.
Maybe those that voted for DePaul have a few clams bet on them.

I'm going to guess that they were trying to manipulate the result.
Since they couldn't vote for their program... and I presume that they wanted their program to win the poll...  they threw their vote to the worst team in order to avoid helping the 2nd best team (in their eyes) come out on top.

If I had to guess I'd put money on those three being from the top 3-4 teams in preseason polling.

Not that it matters of course.

As i get ready to familiarize myself with as much betting info on all teams i will post this site that reviews  the top 144 teams.  I will post the st johns write up at #68 along with the main page even though they are still missing the top 3 teams (they add a team daily).
