Joey DelaRosa

Rich, do you think there might be more value in a full redshirt year for ADR?... lose some weight and add stamina? If JDR can give five to ten minutes of down low relief to Obekpa, it might be worth it to let ADR sit through til 15/16.

I suggested this a while back and still think its the right move. I watched him a lot last year and think many on here are underestimating how much work he needs to put in to be a contributor at this level. I haven't seen him since the NYC title game but the consensus from those who have is that he's not improved his conditioning much, if at all, since then. I just don't see how how he'll keep up in Big east play. Burning a year just to have him around for a few extra fouls, especially now that we have JDR, doesn't make any sense to me. IMO JDR and Jones combined can provide minutes and fouls we need up front. Let him use this year to work his arse off on his conditioning and hopefully he'll come back next year as a serviceable big man.

Good points.

I would assume that CO is coming back but what if he doesn't. That would put ADR as the starting C next year. If that's the case I'd prefer if he had some game experience this year. Also by getting in some games he'll get some real game experience hopefully proving to him that he needs to do what we all say he needs to do. Living it on the court, even in 2-3 min increments, might be better motivation than being told it while you're sitting on the bench. I could go either way on this.

we need to win this year with this crew of seniors and we will need some big man help under the boards to go far in the ncaa and btw we will be in the ncaa this year. I guarantee it. So no red shirt, let him play. With wins and good performance in tourney we may actually get some recruits.

Based upon past history, JDR and Jones cannot be counted on for anything of value
This may be our last chance for at least a couple of years to make the NCAA's
Normally, I would support a redshirt but, in this case, I see things differently
Making the NCAA's can surely help with future recruiting
If ADR is eligible by January, I would play him

I agree with this. ADR clearly did not comprehend the need to drop weight / improve his conditioning this offseason. By some accounts, he actually gained weight over the summer. Putting him on the court is the best way to jolt him into reality and I think he could actually make a minor contribution in the process. But is he even eligible? There's been no word on this at all.

IMO at this point ADR can't be counted on for anything more of value than either Jones or JDR, otherwise I would agree with you wholeheartedly. Does anyone even know if he's been practicing with the team?

I believe that he is practicing with the team
If memory serves me correctly, didn't he also play in the 2nd exhibition game
I wouldn't expect a lot from him, but ADR has to be a big step up from Jones & JDR

Joey is practicing. Hasn't played.

I have not seen JDR play, but I have seen ADR and Jones play and IMO ADR is not going to be an big step up from JDR and Jones, no matter how much we need him to be and want him to be. But glad to be proven wrong.

The NCAA did nothing about our appeal to get Sanchez eligible until the U hired an attorney. They were slow playing us just like they are probably doing with ADR probably partly out of revenge this time. If SJU really wanted or thought he was vital for this season they probably would have hired the same attorney to fight his case. Just my opinion on the situation.

Tend to agree with most of what you're saying, Though in Sanchez case, they school knew that if they didn;t get him then, he was likely gone, So the urgency was there which is why they hired an attorney. In ADR's case it doesn't seem like he's going anywhere. So likely he'll use this year to get his academics and his conditioning in order and hopefully come back a new man next year. As for the NCAA, I don't really believe that they have it in for us, but who knows?

Joey will be a step from Amar who still is lost with his positioning and defensive assignments. Remember that Joey played for the worst coach in college BB when he played in Florida. You can't coach height.

He's practicing. Coach made an announcement that he would practice through the appeal process as soon as they realized there could be an appeal.

Problem is they do not know what to appeal. My guess is their collective stupidity.
