Jermaine Lawrence

@NYPost_Brazille: Cincinnati transfer Jermaine Lawrence of Queens will visit Hofstra Wednesday, per source. Assistant Speedy Claxton reached out today.

How is Speedy allowed to contact recruits?
there is a speed dial joke in there somewhere

No inside info but dont feel too confident in this one.

I wouldn't worry. I think we'll have it worked out by next weekend.
It's good for us that his list is exclusively hometown teams, as the waiver looks completely legit (not saying it isn't).
I know others will go crazy at the notion, but I think Thomas was a bigger need for us.

I hope you're right. To your point, I look at Thomas as a need we filled. I look at the potential signing of Lawrence as more of an added bonus, someone we should be excited to grab in these circumstances.

Also I see that as 2015 maybe not being a drop off year and we can really get momentum at our backs

Great point.

Lawrence would get to be the man in 2015. If everyone stays and we add some studs, they might be even better. A lot of ifs, but who saw that coming. When the 2011 class was signed, I just assumed 2015 would be a sub-.500 season.

No doubt in my mind someone gets redshirted if Lawrence is added. My guess is Dom.

Me too. This could really help with Diallo and Briscoe since they play different positions

He will be Johnny. Spoke with a reliable source that is friends with his family. He informed me the biggest factor aside from location is that Lavin and staff have a relationship with him already and feels comfortable with them. Within 2 weeks he said he'll pop for STJ. This is the same friend that introduced me to Thomas' relative that told me he was popping for STJ. So I trust him.

Wonder if Thomas was aware that Lawrence was a possibility/probability and if this factored into his consideration of Fordham and Loyola.

If Lawrence comes here, he will become the long overdue quality D1 transfer missing these recent years.

So that's 11 scholarships filled if we don't give one to JDLR?

Bring Murphy and Calhoun home, and we won't be the youngest team in America in 2015-16.

Most importantly I hope everything turns out well with JL's family situation. Makes all of this seem less important when a family member is ill. On the basketball side of things I have to think we are the front runners. A kid with his talent has NbA aspirations no doubt. Iona MC and Hofstra are not the best places to foster those dreams. SHU could be a threat but they already have some high level guys coming in and I'm not sure if the fit would be great.

There are no guarantees in recruiting. I know everyone has their eyes set on '15's class but things can easily go wrong with the competition we have for those recruits. When a guy like this falls in your lap it's truly a blessing for the program.

Having Thomas on board is a major positive to the Lawrence recruitment, IMO, since he's willing and able to play the 4 spot. If Lawrence and his handlers are hell-bent on him playing the 3 (which the Cincy blogs have stated is the case) then that helps set things up for him here. Whether he *should* be playing the 3 spot is a whole other conversation. Just get him in the door and work it out from there.

Wherever JL decides to go (pray it's us), will he be available right now or is it still to early in the process? Nothing seems like an obvious clearance with NCAA.

Nothing is ever obvious with the NCAA, but I feel extremely confident he will get the waiver if he attends a local school. He may be the last ever waiver granted before the exception is eliminated. He is looking at schools within an hour or less from his family...the illness is to his father and not a grandparent or distant relative...and it is cancer. It doesn't get more clear than this.

@GoodmanESPN: One-time Oklahoma State signee Jared Terrell considering URI and BC -- and Pittsburgh has now offered scholarship, source told ESPN.

I was just wondering about him since it was noted that after visiting both BC and URI he would make his decision. But that was awhile ago.

BTW-I thought the whole point was to be closer to a sick relative in New England, why then would be go to Pitt?

I agree. His shot has to be better then Dom's and it would give us the opportunity to present a real college sized lineup upfront, something that we rarely have:

Thomas - 6"8
Obekpa - 6"9
Lawrence - 6"9

Seton Hall not going after Lawrence, apparently. He's got to be ours.

Seton Hall will not pursue Cincinnati transfer @mainestory , source tells @SNYtv . He's visiting Hofstra today.

They were never going to be a player for him anyway.

They could have said they won’t be pursuing Malik Newman either!!!
