Jermaine Lawrence, PF (Cincinnati)

Ask Syracuse fans if Carmelo Anthony is an alum or UK fans if Anthony Davis or MKG are alums.. Then ask UC fans if Lance Stephenson is. It all depends on the situation but at the end of the day who could fault a player like Moe Harkless or Anthony Davis for wanting financial security and playing against the likes of Lebron James and Kevin Durant. For me every time I see Moe put a spalding into the net I will say "that's my boy from St. John's" much to the chagrin of those watching with me who will be so annoyed by halftime.DO YOU INCLUDE RON ARTEST,AKA METTA WORLD PEACE? THINK RECRUITS STAY 2 YRS/AGE 20,WHICHEVER COMES FIRST

Lawrence on St. John’s: “One thing is it’s at home. It’s local to me and I like the atmosphere over there. I like their system….Coach [Steve] Lavin, we just talk a lot on the phone. He texts me a lot, stuff like that. He would say it would be good to be the King of New York and stuff like that.”

Gotta think we're still in this. Can't hurt that Harkless was just picked 15th in the draft either. Lavin will be a persistent presence on this one. Im sorry, but i cant see Jermaine picking Rutgers despite recent reports. King of NY!

How much does Kentucky or UNC getting involved worry you MCN ?

Once again, Jermaine Lawrence showed impressive ability as a long, athletic and rangy four-man. Because he can make one- and two-dribble pull-ups, and has good mobility, Lawrence can also play as a big three-man. However, at about 6-foot-9 he's plenty big to play the four and has a huge quickness advantage at that spot. Cincinnati, Syracuse, Kansas, Rutgers and Florida were the schools he mentioned off the top of his head.

Uk should worry anybody. Things are changing though, and more schools are luring talent. I think Lavin has a shot to lure big talent against some of those big schools the way he is going about things.

That is one of the most remarkable changes we've seen in the space of two years. Pre-Lavin, the thread is over many posts ago. Today, it's realistic to think we could land a kid like this no matter who is involved.

Good times again...

Moe Harkless went #15 after his freshman year. While Kentucky pours out draft picks last I checked Moe went higher than some Kentucky guys this year.( not saying we are a better destination yet )

BUT

Lavin is now proof you can come here and go pro and go high

And if someone with Anthony Davis' skill set came to St. John's, you can be assured he'd be a No. 1 draft choice.

Teaming with Martin on the interior, Jermaine Lawrence has a great frame and certainly has big-time ability. The five-star had it on display in the morning game on Saturday as he filled the stat sheet with 18 points and 11 rebounds. However, Lawrence struggled some from the field and didn't commit himself to the glass during the second session as he did earlier in the day.

Here is a reminder: Lawrence (along, with Martin) will be playing tonight at 9:30ET on CBS Sports Network.

Jermaine Lawrence has tweeted his Final Top 7 (in no particular order):

Cinncinati
Kansas
Kentucky
St. John's
Syracuse
UCLA
UNLV

With that list of heavyweights, it will definitely be an uphill battle for SJU to land him.

Other than Kentucky (because they are who they are) I feel confident -- not cocky -- we have just as good a shot as all the others on that list. Make no mistake, SJU will appear of many lists for top tier recruits, and now that the staff can concentrate on a couple of kids a year, these other schools will have an uphill battle.

I also feel confident about nabbing Lawrence. Other than Kentucky, as you've stated, then I'm not particularly fearful of any of the other schools listed. The word is his mom is very fond of our staff. So, we'll see how this one shakes out.

Actually, I'll go one better, kransmar. I think St. John's will appear on many lists of top tier recruits, whether we're concentrating on two or five kids. I'm in agreeance with you, in reference to other schools may have to worry about dealing with us since the staff can the majority of their time on a couple of kids per season.

Here's a stupid question....in the opinions of people who would know a lot better than me, he's a one-and-done?

For everyone worried about Kentucky, take a look at their scholarship availability for 2013.

Here's hoping the Harrison twins commit to Kentucky and use up 2 ships. And I don't think they'll have near the number of one-and-done kids this year. I'm sure Lavin will angle it that Jermaine will not get the playing time and/or skill exposure he would get at SJU.

Cuse and UCLA concern me more that Kentucky.

In this day in age, I'd say most top 15 players see or feel they are one-and-done.
