Jamal Branch to STJ

 Any news on branch?

The Daily News said he watched the game with Lavin in NYC last night.

I got a feeling Lavin will close the deal on this one!!! At least I hope so, he would be a monster get.
Was being recruited by Texas, UCLA, and Kansas while a high school senior. Kid can flat out play

But wouldnt he have to sit out a year? Would he be elibible in the spring semester for next year?

He would enroll at SJU for the second semester this year and be practicing with the team but not playing. He'd only have to sit out til December of next year, meanwhile practicing with the team ASAP.

Can only dream of this guy driving and dishing to D'Angelo!!!

Nuri Who?

Sick... Would be amazing to land this kid. Crossing my fingers.

Couldn't have picked a better game to watch: BE win on the road; Harkless & Harrison et al. showing their potential; and a glaring weakness at PG.

A link would be greatly appreciated. I tried but couldnt find it

It was in the print version of today's Daily News. You'll have to trust me.

What better way to visit than sitting watching the game with the Head coach pitching to you as you watch a buzzer-beater win and take in NYC? Hits all the bases there.

If they were watching a game at night it was probably Saints/Lions unless they were watching it on coaches DVR.

Interesting take on Branch and possible point guard logjam ay Maryland on Maryland blog:

Just to mention, Aquille Carr just picked Seton Hall yesterday. Their first legit recruit IMO and a good pickup for them. The writer of the article refers to Sampson as a guy who's not "must get". Personally, I think Sampson is a kid with monstrous upside at his height and is certainly a premium recruit. I'd love for SJU to still bring Sampson in. He's an athlete that is hard to match, plays hard all the time and a guy I think will be a pro after a few years. I still hope Lavin reels him back in. Hes a great fit and part of the family already should he re-commit.

Even if Branch turns out to be nothing more than a career backup, his signing would still be huge because our program will seem a lot less toxic if a formerly highly ranked kid signs on.

I'm sure Lavin will be straightforward with him -- the cancer is gone, healing is taking longer than expected, and that he'll be his coach next year. And that all other rumors to the contrary are bullshit.

And I bet that if Branch does sign, he'll mention that all of the concerns about Lavin were addressed to his liking by the man himself.

My guess is that he'll be a lot better than career backup. Hope we can get him on board before he visits Maryland.

And assuming Coach doesn't have Time Warner as his cable provider.

Doesn't he need to be enrolled somewhere before the semester starts if he's going to play the 2nd semester of next season? If so, he's got to visit Md. soon and make a decision immediately thereafter.
