Jamal Branch to STJ

so why is he transferring, again?

Not sure of the question when you say "again"? This is his first and only transfer.

I took it as "Tell me again why he's transferring" As in, his situation seems pretty good there in the next three years, so is there more to the story?

Or something like that.

It would be huge to land him. He's tall enough to play shooting guard when HArrison is out of the game, and he was highly ranked coming into college. May mean someone like Sina scratching us from his list, but I'm excited nonetheless.

He's likely leaving because he committed to Turgeon who is at Maryland now not A&M. He was verball committed to Turgeon for 3 years prior to joining the team. When he finally gets to A&M Turgeon leaves. We are a great situation for kids at the PG, PF and C spots because we are sooo woefully thin there. This kid can come in, start practicing as soon as he gets here, and only be competing with Phil Greene next season. Same goes for guys like Gathers, Sampson, Sanchez and Obekpa who essentially have no competition except Gift up front who will be a senior.

I don't thinkBranch would move to SG as much as Phil Greene would probably slide to SG when Harrison out of the game. We should still be able to compete for other guards in 2013' without a problem. We're far from a logjam with 3 guys back there.

I know we don't have a lot of guys verballed right now, but Branch would be an amazing start and could hone his skills this season. We're a very attractive program for soe of these guys, and I expect it to be a much better recruiting class when all the ink is dry, than many expecting.

Everything I've read about Branch is excellent. He was ranked anywhere in the top 5-8 PG's overall in 2011. Has elite size, speed and athleticism. Apparently he's also a monstrous defender. Lots of top programs wanted this kid, and still do. We'd be scoring BIG landing this kid.  Of all our open scholarship spots, I never thought we'd be in the mix for an elite PG because theyre all off the board. Who'd have thought that our loss to A&M at the Garden would be a recruiting visit? Now gotta land him!

Just a quick note -- Branch and Harrison are from different parts of the state.

Arlington is outside of Dallas and Harrison is from outside of Houston. The difference in distance is about five hours.

True, but it's still part of the Republic, errrr I mean state.

Whatever the reason he left the team in mid season rest assured its not because he's a selfish coward pussy woman cancer who was flunking out of school and has no shot at making the NBA, like Nurideen Lindsey. This kid clearly left the team midseason for good reasons - there's no posse of thugs whispering things in his ears like Lindsey had, filling his head with all sorts of nonsense - and as far as him quitting on his teammates, uh uh, probably just the opposite, because this kid's character is of the highest quality, which I know from reading his Twitter feed, which has nothing on it about sneakers or broads, so probably they quit on him. Bottom line: We are lucky to have him come here. Not only is he a quality player, with everything going for him on a personal level - straight A student, honor roll, ROTC, national honor society, academic all american, boy scout, and punt pass and kick champion, blood test clean as a whistle - but he's smart enough to know that quitiing the team and leaving A&M midseason was the best thing for himself, his teammates, his family, his new teammates, their families, both universities, the state of Texas, New York, New York City, the planet earth, and the galaxy known as the milky way and most importantly the great and powerful prostate. This is the best. move. ever.

You forgot to mention that unlike Nuri, Branch's teamates are not better off w/o him, their two guard's shooting problems are not becuase Branch was selfish and Branch will not be dead in two years. I am also sure that no one on the Texas A&M forum posted that Branch "best cross the street when he sees me coming".

Article says he wouldn't be eligible until December 2013. I'm assuming that's a misprint, and they mean December 2012.

Someone please clarify.

looking at some footeage of him, WOW!! kid is ultra talented......we are in desperate need of someone just like him...he guards the perimiter and has the ability to create off the dribble and draw defenders, which is IMHO is our #1 problem area!! go get em steve

Probably a misprint.

Branch played 24 minutes against us on November 18th. 7 points, 5 rebounds (not bad for a 6-3 guard), but an unspectacular 3-9 from the field (1-3 from 3-pt range), and also comitted 5 turnovers.

Of course, you can't take too much from one game, but with a year to refine his game, and the very real possibility of more playing time here, he will almost definatly help our team.

Based on what I've seen on utube in two years this kid won't be dead he'll be the starting PG on the Lakers - he's that good. He reminds me of Oscar Robertson but with a huge upside - especially considering that he looks to be like he's still growing and he could be six nine or so when all is said and done. Only problem is that he's likely to be a lottery pick in 2013 which might upset our scholarship distribution but I'm willing to chance it. As for crossing the street those rubes in Texas couldn't find NYC on a map and even if they could they'd get lost on the subway and end up in Staten Island or something, so screw em.

FYI Branch's hometown is listed as Humble, Texas which is suburban Houston. I believe Harrison's hometown is Missouri City, Texas this is also a suburb of Houston. That being said I have no idea if they have any sort of a preexisting relationship but it might help bring him here if a positive one exists.

From what I hear, he want's to enroll for spring semester, and thus being able to practice with the team this year. He would then be able to play this december, not december of 2013

Long-winded posts that are not funny and bring nothing to discussion, but nothing new here.

His HS recruiting info lists him as a point guard not a combo. Its time we had a real pg rather than trying to get by with combos in the pg spot. Maybe A&M could send us one of their seemingly endless supply of athletic guys 6'8" and over as well.

And two missed FTs at the end. Nuri also played a lot more minutes, I'm sure, so to compare their stats on the face of it really is not fair. Blame me I guess, because I opened the door to it.

There are so many great PGs in 2013 that we may lose out on . But I say take him. We are sacrificing this year but we dont want to sacrifice next year. He will be available for BE compitition and the NCAA tourny. He will also help Greene . D LO and the rest of the team in practice this year ,plus he has good charecter.
