Jamal Branch to STJ

If he committed to Turgeon and Maryland is now in the mix, why wouldn't they have the inside edge?

By the way, NYC temperature is sunny and in the 50s. Great weekend to show the campus---although it is always better when students are on campus. Also, I wish the team was here. Sometimes, connecting with the players helps land a recruit.

Its an afternoon game in cincy, so maybe they will return sat nite, if they stay over they get back sunday still have time to meet with him. Also, since he is also a freshman he probobly know alot of the guys from aau and summer events. Lets hope he enjoys his vist this week-end. like to have some positive news on the recruiting front.

Best thing they are saying about him is his defensive ability and that he is good at stopping penetration. We have historically had trouble defending point guards penetration. :)

Team should be in great mood when they meet him on campus tonight

St. John's, less than 30 minutes after the 57-55 win over Cincy, is on the bus for the airport and a 6:05 p.m. flight. #stjbb

A W never hurts recruiting. He would be getting a lot of minutes here next year and will be surrounded by a great team and staff.

Sounds like they are rushing back to seal the deal.

Team and fans are on a real high right now and the perfect time for Jamal to visit.
He clearly could be the difference between our current record and another two or three wins. Lets hope he becomes the first commit for next season. He and two other high level players would be a great class.

For those who are misinformed there are not too many players like Eugene Lawrence ( 400-500 range ) who are waiting to pick up and accept BE offers in order to get splinters versus playing 25 minutes a night at a low-mid Division 1 program. If you remember clearly Lawrence was handed the keys to the car on day 1 as there was no other pg on the roster.

The below LINK is to Jamal's flattering profile which appeared on the Texas A&M website.

Sounds like Jamal would love G-ds Gift as he walks around campus with a bible.
Jamal also said that what he liked best about Coach Kennedy was that Coach Kennedy cared about their education. Well this summer past I know that Coach Lavin had D Lo, Sir D, Phil, G-ds Gift and Malik all in summer school for 2 sessions in order to advance their academics. They were the only 5 players eligible at the time for SJU so the same can certainly be said about Coach Lavin in terms of caring about his player's academics.
The more I read about this kid the more I realize that SJU is the perfect fit for both parties.

WWhat about CJac who wound up in the league after playing point at Wright St. Terrible talent evaluation by Norm.

Correct but Norm did not play him at the point.
His freshman season he was often used at small forward while his sophomore year he was used at the 2.

Anyway to get back on topic Jamal Branch would be an absolutely great commit for this team for the next few seasons for so very many reasons.

Agree. Branch is as good of a pg prospect as we could ask for, and was ranked above guys like KU's Tharpe in the 2011 class. His height and skill set fit into our schemes perfectly and methinks SJU's staff can get a lot more mileage out of him than A&m's staff. The ability to add him to practice his season is invaluable. He'd jump in seamlessly before Big East schedule starts next year. Hope we can seal the deal here and lock him up to kick off the 2012 class with a much needed PG commit.
