Jamal Branch to STJ

Ranked #9 at his position. 51st overall when coming out. A good size @ 6' 3". I wouldn't put much into his current stats. Soooo many variables go into that. I trust OUR coaching staff can develop the talent and the talent is there. You don't get recruited by the likes of UCLA/Kansas without it.

now that's the type of intelligent answer that makes sense-well said!

@GoodmanCBS: Jamal Branch had terrific visit to St. John's, but still expected to visit Maryland -per Jerome Branch. Then likely to decide between the 2.

Good news. I wish he popped for us this weekend, though! Maybe that's just getting greedy.

No way he goes to Maryland if PT was a problem at Texas A&M!!! Maryland's starting backcourt is a pair of sophs and they have an awesome freshman SG/SF, Nick Faust, firing from the wing. The soph backcourt consists of a 6'1 combo guard averaging 21.2 points and 2.3 assists per game (who will be around for four years) and a 6'3 PG that is averaging 6.8 points and 5.2 assists per game.

That, my friends, is a logjam at the guard position...the same kind Mr. Branch is avoiding at A&M...and a logjam he will not find at St. John's, a team without a single pure point guard.

@GoodmanCBS Just a gut, but I think St. John's winds up getting Texas A&M transfer Jamal Branch. Would be quality addition if happens.

Hopefully in a few weeks this will be the scene at practice:

Unfortunately, there's not a logjam that causes the main problem at the current moment. But if the Harrisons go to UMD, that is the killer for PT. I just posted this on jj, but most of you know I have the skinny on Terps happenings too (I speculated on Branch with Moose once I got info on the Terps board).

My comment:
"Not totally the case.

Stoglin is really a 2. He played some point, but Turgeon moved him to the 2 and had Faust (who's a natural 3 - that's how tough it was with Stoglin at the point - with limited players available (sound familiar? Turgeon had limited options) play the point a while until MVPe' (Pe'Shown Howard - a natural PG) came back from his foot injury. Terps still need an above average PG who can also score some.

Cassell Jr is a back up plan. He's a combo, more of a 2. PG solution not to be found with Skull Jr.

Harrison Twins - the real wild card in this. The Harrisons will not commit until spring time earliest, so Branch's sense of urgency plays into St. John's hand as I wrote earlier. There is absolutely nothing on the twins leaning towards UK or MD's way. The Bino connection may be the deciding straw, or UK winning it all and Cal going to coach the Knicks may do it - my speculation and dream - only time I root for Cal to win is if that would happen. Additionally, MD is now more limited on schollies if they get 1 or 2 more needed big men to sign for '12 or '13. (Ironically SJ's now has more wiggle room there).

In the end, if I'm Branch and I really want Beast play, St. John's is my choice. If Branch knows he's the guy and Turge smells the Harrisons going UK, he might punt on the Harrisons and go with Branch. I'd go with the sure bet and St. John's because it's possible the Harrisons still go to MD and Branch gets log jammed a bit."

Goodman says this right after I tweeted him and Dan Martin my feeling regarding the Harrisons gumming up the works for MD. lmao

If he wants to play next spring he has to pull the trigger soon. Any ideas when the spring semester starts for both schools?

Branch just tweeted: " really love the coaching staff here at SJ! The teaching from the coaches is phenomenal! They def know the game well!"

Next week. Besides he can still miss a couple days it's not the end of the world. That being said it should be resolved by next week

Better to get it resolved this week, announce for SJU and get packing... ;)

Us having DeAngelo cant hurt, even if they don't know each other that well as they are from different parts of the state, they are the same age, from the same state, and would form a great Sophmore back court. Having Rico, as well as Baron Davis/Earl Watson around the program may be huge,

Branch and Harrison are from the same part of the state. They are both from suburban Houston and lived about 40 minutes apart. Branch's last High School was in Arlington, suburban Dallas, but that is not where he is from.

Ok thanks, I was wondering why he played Houston AAU but lived near Dallas.

He's originally from Kansas City. Home of Earl Watson and also another Lavin recruit Rush

Yeah IIRC you can register for classes up to a week after actual class starts. I'm glad this recruitment should be quick!

Love that tweet! Glad Branch feels that way and even happier that he tweeted it for all to see.
