The problem with social media and websites like redmen.com, which we've discussed before, is that college athletes playing high visibility sports get fed by adulation. The reverse of it is, while they crave the interest from an adoring fan base, when they've played badly or transgress, they hear that too.
CO is just plain immature. Like many athletes before him, he never learned that an apology goes a very long way in gaining most fans forgiveness. Had Obekpa offered a public apology and even provided some detail, for example, "I was at a party, and I should have known better, but I had a couple of beers and made a very bad decision", 70% of redmen.com at least would have acknowledged that they had been there and offered support.
Even going out the door, had he said something to the effect of understanding how he let his teammates and fans down, I'd sympathize with his plight a little more.
As it stands, he becomes somebody else's headache. There will be takers, but many fewer than had he been free of all the issues.
