It's Official - Chris Obekpa to Transfer

The problem with social media and websites like redmen.com, which we've discussed before, is that college athletes playing high visibility sports get fed by adulation. The reverse of it is, while they crave the interest from an adoring fan base, when they've played badly or transgress, they hear that too.

CO is just plain immature. Like many athletes before him, he never learned that an apology goes a very long way in gaining most fans forgiveness. Had Obekpa offered a public apology and even provided some detail, for example, "I was at a party, and I should have known better, but I had a couple of beers and made a very bad decision", 70% of redmen.com at least would have acknowledged that they had been there and offered support.

Even going out the door, had he said something to the effect of understanding how he let his teammates and fans down, I'd sympathize with his plight a little more.

As it stands, he becomes somebody else's headache. There will be takers, but many fewer than had he been free of all the issues.

I really don't think Obekpa is going to sit out a year and then return to play college ball. He'll turn pro, probably try to play in the NBA DL and ultimately wind up playing abroad.

He'll go to whoever opens their wallet for him. Unfortunately there will be quite a few potential landing places

Good riddance. Obekpa let his team down too many times during critical parts of the seasons the last few years. Would be very foolish for any coach to take him, but someone desperate for talent will take him.

I still find it remarkable he was the ONLY player in the tournament to fail a drug test this year.

We're going all in on rebuilding. This won't help us next year but it will long term.

There will be a ton. I predict Uconn or Cincy.
