It's Official - Chris Obekpa to Transfer

@NYPost_Brazille: Chris Obekpa bolting St. John's. #sjubbhttp://t.co/L51vxiWSqK

If players are leaving because CM is too strict or too demanding of accountability, I'm confident we are going to better in the long run.

Once again, the beat writers claiming anonymous sources when the info clearly came from this site. How come posters on Redmen.com are never cited in these articles?

because it would be kind of weird for the NY post to be citing a source is their paper as Room112 or MrGoogle :)
Especially with all the Asian porn references :)

Why transfer, prob have to sit out a year, then play 1 year?

It makes zero sense. Especially when you consider that ample playing time would have been guaranteed.

So, there's obviously something else nefarious going on. I'm disappointed to see it happen, but if it's part of the cleansing proces so be it.

It seems to me that teams like Butler can acheive consistent success with relatively stable kids. I'd like to think that we're headed in that direction with Mullin.

Was Chris Obeka and the de la rosa brothers involved in a cross complainant assault? Mr google can you confirm?

Maybe three strikes and you're out. (Violated Team rules and was suspended twice last year).

I wish him luck. Disappointed it happened at this time of year with no other options but what's done is done.

Let's move on

I'd really like to move on, but Obekpa's transgressions is directly responsible for Lavin's inability to elevate this program to where it could have been. Imagine what SJU/LAvin's fortune would have been had CO played well down the stretch in 2014 and been a driving force towards the NCAA bid that we lost in the Big East opener to Providence? Or how CO could have been a big factor in an NCAA win vs. SD State?

If just those two things happened, there would be a virtually overwhelming case to retain Lavin after 3 NCAA bids in 5 seasons.

No question, it's all spilled milk, but CO is as responsible as anyone for Lavin's premature departure. It's hard to wish someone well or turn the page when you look at some of his lowlights here.

So in a sense, we owe CO a thank you for being the player he was, otherwise the program would continue to languish for many years to come.

I'm as big a Mullin advocate on Redmen.com as anyone, and have been for years. However, I'm a much bigger advocate of wins, and even in an NCAA tourney year like this past one, have a disdain for large number of empty seats around me. Obekpa and Jordan were problem children, and both undermined the program. Two bids in five years isn't exactly languishing, and we had a great shot at a 3rd. Most fans would sign up for that. I've had season tickets for 36 of the past 37 seasons, and very few on here have been that loyal. The happenings of the past few weeks have certainly reset our program to zero in terms of where Mullin is beginning with usable personnel. In many ways it is comparable to Lavin's second season, but Lavin came in with a seasoned team. Looking FORWARD, next season is a bumpy ride (again), and that's the frustrating part.

Beast it was probably going to be an even bumpier ride next season if Lavin was still here.

I'm not lamenting Lavin not being here, because it was basically stated that had Lavin stayed, both Jordan and Obekpa were departing. I'm lamenting the state of our roster next season in terms of experienced players. What was (hopefully) talked about as a tourney team just a few weeks ago is now a total rebuild. It just delays the success that we all feel Mullin is on track to have, that's all. Ok. Now I'm ready to move on.

So the CO drama ends. It's sad. I wish the kid the best of luck but I am done with his drama. I am kind of a rules and team mentality guy so my sympathy level is pretty much non-existent. He had a free ride and couldnt follow some rules.
The whole idea of him being so talented is no pass. It's like a job. You get paid (free education, room and board, marketing in terms of televised games to get your talent seen etc....) to do a job. You accept the pay...you do the job.
Like I said I really wish him well but I am ready for the bumpy ride we will see the next couple of years as CM creates a program and gets us back on track.

Why should anyone be upset about this?

Gave up on his teammates one season. Smoked weed right before the biggest game of his career last season.

I hate to say it, this is one guy you'd be crazy to light a candle for. Good luck wherever you go. I'd rather we lose every game next season then have him on the roster and wait until he screws up again.

Good riddens to this young man he was depressed how about working your ass off in the off season and playing well next year and being closer to making an nba roster.

That is it I am off the Mullin bandwagon!

Just kidding off course but outside of his hiring, it has been a rough off season. Hopefully LoVett is as fun to watch as he was in his clips.
