Ishmail Wainright, SF Baylor Verbal

Let's seal the deal on this one.

#Stjbb coach Steve Lavin will meet today in Kansas City with Ish Wainright's parents, and will also watch his younger brother work out.

6-6 SF Ish Wainright of Montrose Christian will visit Ohio State this wknd & #stjbb later this month. Also looking at Texas & Baylor.

I was hoping he would visit us next weekend (for the "Madness"), but it seems we'll get the last visit. I think that'll be the one to finalize it for us.

MJ you seem very confident with us getting Ish Wainright? Any specific reason you feel that way? Also, I assume you are positive about the kids abilities? Man I am looking forward to 2012/13 its hard for me to focus on more potential good news for 2013/14. I guess that is why Coach Lavin gets the big bucks.

Things can change, but I heard strong vibes about us being in prime position to land Wainright. He is a strong, long-armed, 6'5" kid. He's known to be a very, solid defender, as well, as a being a good passer and tin attacker on the offensive end. So, I am positive about his ability to come in and immediately help the squad.

It can be kinda hard to sweat recruiting with the upcoming season on the horizon, but I enjoy following recruiting, so I tend to focus on both. ;)

I love it when Lavin is in the position of being a closer, so I'm comfortable with being the last visit...Lavin is pretty cool when it comes to recruiting...He usually advises these kids to go check out other places and see what they have to offer and then come back to him...He wants kids that want to be here and are comfortable here

Lavin has been on Wainwright for a long time now...Seems like he backed off for a while using that same philosophy to let him check other programs out...Wainwright seems like the exact kind of long athletic player that Lavin likes going back to his UCLA days...Long, athletic players with tremendous defensive potential that fits his system and can play multiple positions...He's been getting guys just like Wainwright to the NBA for years now...This kid seems like a perfect fit

Valid point about us hosting him last, we seem to yield good results when that happens. Anyway, does anyone who will be at our madness? Prospect wise

A 6 5 SF seems a bit small these days. I have read he is a great defender but no concern with his size at the 3?

I believe he'll be fine at his size in the collegiate ranks. He's a strong kid.

Hes not small for the 3 at all IMO. He could even play a little four with his strength and length.

Not to worry! He will be listed at 6'6 or 6'7 at whatever college he ends up. LOL!

DJ Kennedy was ranked 126 in the class of 2007 and he was an excellent rebounder.
This kid is ranked number 26 in the class of 2013. I have no worry about his size. He would be a great addition to our program.

Good stuff MJ. I hope he commits so we can see first hand what he can do.

This article from June says he is measured at 6'6" 220lbs with a 7'2" wingspan. A wingspan like that is absolutely absurd for a strong and not super tall forward like Wainright. Bottom line though, is he will be a dominant college player and has the wingspan of most college centers which more than negates an inch or two of height. Lavin loves players like this. I also remember reading that he totally shut down Jabari Parker, top player in 13' class. This kid is the goods. Don't worry about his height.

Wainwright's commit would seem to preclude Rysheed Jordan since St. John's has only one scholarship available this cycle.

I doubt a player of Jordan's caliber wants to put his recruitment on hold to wait and see if he can receive a scholarship if, and only if, a player on the St. John's roster transfers or moves to the NBA.

Some one might leave early or we will give out more scholarships than we have. Then someone will transfer at the end of the year.
If Jordan, Martin, & Wainwright want to come here, Lavin will make it happen.

All indications are Lawrence and Martin won't decide until spring and Jordan and Wainwright seem to be pointing towards November signings. I don't think one would preclude the other from joining at all.
