Isaiah Whitehead, SG (Seton Hall verbal)

Can I ask a serious question? Try hard to avoid insults as tempting as it may be...but at what point do some of you begin to question our offense? At what point do some of you begin to question Lavin? I seriously would not be shocked in the least if this was a happy board with tons of Lavin supporters even if we win 15 games this season. I'm just curious to know what it would take not to even be disappointed in, but to question the team, or coach's ability to win games.

Why can't you wait until the season to see what we're gonna do from a scoring standpoint? We do have some extra pieces to the puzzle, 'ya know?

I don't particularly have an issue with you (until you go into your diatribes and whatnot), but you are more annoying than this gnat that continues to occasionally fly into my space.

Question- when does somebody ban this idiot Joe

Do we want to be back where we were 8 years ago. If you get into bed with Tiny Morton that is where you will be.

Lavin is a classy individual and he is above all that nonsense. If your not, that's how you get into the Jarvis days. We were just there and we do not want that again, this is 10X better.

BTW- Joe you are still an idiot.

Thanks, Buck! You sure live up to the latter part of your name! :)

Wow

Adam Zagoria ‏@AdamZagoria
Tiny Morton said he spoke to Steve Lavin today and asked him whey they didn't a spot for him at #stjbb

Take a hike Tiny @#####kissmyass

Lavin responded, "Because we'd like to maintain some semblance of class and dignity at our program. IOW IW was not worth you!"

Sounds like the big difference was that Tiny got a new job, one that I'm sure he'll say was always one of his 'dream jobs'

Also, it sounds like IW got the green light to chuck at will for the Hall while Lavin and staff told him that he'd actually have to earn his keep and fit in with the actual team...After seeing this all unfold, I'm glad our staff didn't do what the Hall staff did and we'll still have a better team anyway

Joe, are you questioning our offense based on 2013, because last I checked we haven't played a game yet in 2014 (Europe not withstanding). Also, are you really saying that fans on this board will happy even if we win 15 games? That may be the dumbest thing anyone has ever posted (again, if that is really your question) b/c if you read some of passionate posters on here (yourself included) there is not one single person that would be happy with 15 wins no matter how much they support Lavin. Come on Joe, you can't be surprised that people jump all over you when you make these kind of comments

Where were you last season?? People on here had a very negative outlook during the year and while we were losing. Right now people are just very optimistic and that's the way it should remain.

All of those things have been questioned ad nauseum Joe. Just because the fan base on balance isn't quite as reactionary as you are doesn't mean that the team is viewed by most with rose-colored glasses.

It's simply that every event (game won/lost, recruit won/lost) isn't a reason to make a snap reaction as to the state of the program. I think that is where you differ from many.

That aside, to answer your question, if we don't make the NCAA tournament this year I think that will be a reasonable time to assess what is not going right and why. It would be difficult to assemble more talent than we have on this team, so we need to produce results. Missing the tournament will be an event worth debating. Not today, and not our first frustrating loss this season.

I don't think anybody would be thrilled if it took hiring Tiny to get IW on board. It's a desperate move to get a recruit, and sets a very bad precedent for the future. There will be other kids coming along with HS coaches looking for the same deal. 3 days ago, nobody was even chattering about IW coming on board. Can't act like it's Lebron leaving Cleveland.

Thanks for the voice of reason and + 1 google for the coolest screen name EVER, especially on this board, especially today!!!

Lavin definitely has the moral high ground here. There is no doubt he is all class, a great recruiter, and a stand up guy. I just hope he can lead us to wins. The problem is that moral high ground does not win games. Being a good coach wins games. The more this back and forth between coaches and media goes on, the more I'm glad we stayed away, BUT some of you I feel are too accepting of mediocrity. If we have a bad season this year (i.e. missing the tourney and no major injuries), then who will you blame? If not Lavin then who?

Joe, for once I agree with you; Buck was way over the top nasty to all idiots!!

So is Delgado back in play now that the guy who brought him there looks like he's being screwed over?

And Joe acting more hysterical than my 3-year-old daughter when she sees a bee really takes the cake. And I've seen a lot of stupid crap on this board.

Seriously LOL here. When we the last time a COACH got recruited over before even going to a practice. LOLOLOL

I guess I am happy he is not coming here. I know he can score but he reminds me of Lance. We have players who like to play with each other and not just its about me. Add in Tiny who has proved his level on integrity by stealing hs kids from all over NY and basically holding schools hostage for his kids unless he gets his, we are better off without both of them. By the end of spring we will get ours, by the end of spring there will be a buzz about us and the buzz from the hall will be when they should fire Willard. Karma says Tiny will get what he deserves.

As far as Lavin, yes he was used. Thank god he had the integrity to slap tiny on his face and say no. Who on the staff would you have liked to cut to make room for the little weasel? Or do you think Tiny is a recruiting guru or a great X & O strategist. Many NY HS coaches would rather kick him off campus for how he has treated them during his tenure at Lincoln. We will get a better kid, maybe not as talented a scorer but a better kid. Give me a kid like Jordan every day.

Regarding your feelings for Tiny I believe they're shared by other (past) posters who are now in a bit of quandary given that they're also obsessive admirers of everything Pitino coaching tree related. Where does PMG post now. I would honestly love to hear his take on this.

Lavin and the team will be fine. There may be a little bit of a bump to start the season off as people learn what their roles are for 2013-2014. But come the 2nd half of the season I think the potential is there to make up for the super young frustrating teams of the past couple of years. the future is exciting for SJU basketball, I am excited once again.

Tiny showed his colors today. Tiny has benefited from the success of his HS teams over the years. To actually ask Coach Lavin why there is not a spot for him is astounding. He basically answered the question for himself. Well Tiny we do not have room for an egotistical coach who is looking to package himself in a deal with one of his players.

IW will do well, I have seen him play and I like his game but I was really shocked that he chose to go to Seton Hall even with the rumors pointing him in that direction. Good luck to him. Willard however, is walking a dangerous desperate line that will come back to haunt him for sure.

Agree with everything, but how will it come back to haunt him? Karma is not a real thing, and technically it's legal even if it's wrong.

Joe the teams best player was throw off the team at the end of the season. That is not accepting mediocrity, it is doing the right thing and setting the standard for what is acceptable and what is expected from the students on the team. They played ok last season and showed a lot of promise. This year will be better than last and Lavin will build upon that.

“I just chose Seton Hall because it was the perfect fit for me," Morton said at a news conference at the Lincoln High School gym on Thursday. "Coach [Willard] has played a key hand in my development, even in high school, telling me basic things I needed to do. I just felt comfortable.”

"I can also stay close to home, where it's easily accessible for my parents, for my family," said Morton, who is widely known by his childhood nickname "Tiny." "It's not too far away. And it's just Coach Willard -- he's played a big part in me getting this opportunity at Seton Hall."

Morton's mom said she was sometimes unsure which school her son would pick.

"I don't think I've always known, because we've raised Tiny to make choices," she said. "Believe me, he just whispered to us in that room before we walked out. We raised him to make decisions like that, because he's going to school there. Not us."

In a related move, Lincoln shooting guard Isaiah Whitehead also committed to Seton Hall on Thursday.
