If we're going to throw down over Lavin's performance I'm ready. I've been holding a lot in, as I know a number of other posters have been as well.

But, this is a recruit thread, let's respect the organization of the site and the work Paul and the mods do.

Second, this truly is a topic that can take off like wildfire. And barring the unexpected: like a phenomenally successful season or an absolutely dreadful one, we will probably be a slightly above avg team battling for a post - season berth, which means this debate will rage on all winter.
Nothing new has happened to this team in months.
It was natural that after the season, and amidst all the rumors of transfers and defections, that we would argue over Lavin's performance.... but we got that out of our systems. Rigjt now, nothing has developed in months.
People can talk about whatever they'd like, but I think this is one debate all sides would benefit from postponing until at least real games start. Everything that could be said at this point has already been said.

What has President Bobby Gempesaw said that leads you to the conclusion that he is satisfied with the school's return on investment for Mr. Lavin's Big East record of 36 wins and 36 losses ?

By the simple fact that if the 36-36 record was the be all as you seem to think it is he would not be the coach now.

Stop cherry picking things taken out of context. Jay Wright’s first 4 years in the Big East were 32-32 with just 1 winning BE record in his 4th year. And he took over for a coach who went to the NCAA’s 4 times at Villanova (Lappas). Lavin did not take over from a coach who enjoyed MORE success than he has, not even close.

Norm Robert’s first 4 years at SJU his League record was 19-47 and not only did he not get fired he got a rollover extension that lasted another 2 years.

Get a clue genius.

You make some good points but can we get to a place where you don't need to be calling out people or insulting them? Mr. Otis is a good guy who has volunteered his time on here for over a decade. While I don't agree with everything, he has pretty much stuck unemotionally to only facts, questions or simple, unadulterated opinions. I can never in 15 years ever remember Otis insulting anyone or being less than respectful to people. He doesn't deserve this.

Awesome post, and very much needed. Insults are routinely hurled (by the same few) at anyone questioning the coach.

With or without Isaiah Briscoe, we will have a basketball team next year.


So let's all just stop pretending that we are psychologists and have the ability to analyze the thinking process of an 18yr old kid whom we have probably never spoken to before.

I agree with what you're saying, however when you hear comments like "another stellar recruiting class.......!", etc, its pretty hard for some of us to remain silent.

Actually, I was trying to get the thread back on point, hence the meme from a few pages ago (the one Tom "bumped"). Threads always seems to get hijacked because someone derails it with their Lavin "fetishes."

There is a professional football team's forum that I occasionally read, and if posters continue to hijack threads for pot-stirring purposes, then their arse is gone! You only get two or three chances. No more!

There are good posters who have stayed away because they are tired of the near-compulsive negativity. I do know a poster who has stayed away because he's not particularly a "happy camper," but he doesn't feel there is a need to repeat the same stuff ad nauseam. He also believes it's futile to hijack threads and spam the board. So, he's stayed away. Maybe, he'll post again one day. Maybe, he won't ever come back. Who knows?!

Not to "hijack" this thread any longer, but I'd like to see threads stay its course, instead of going back to the same stuff that's been said (by some of the same posters) for the past several months or years (in one or two folks cases).

Let's be clear... Fordham hijacked this thread, and you aided and abetted.
Some posters were debating whether having an extension for the coach was a factor in Whitehead's decision. Then a poster mentioned that he thought coach already has an extension and is waiting to announce it at midnight madness in front of the recruits.
Otis simply asked "what makes you think that", and the next think you know Lavin's bodyguards jump to his defense and we're talking about Jay Wright's record at Nova and whether Dunlap's season should count towards Lavin's record.

The faintest suggestion that the coach is under-performing sets you guys off. That's a fetish.

This board is approaching the inanity it had at the end of the previous regime. Lavin is here, he is trying to bring in national recruits which everyone wishes for, but the reality is NO coach we have had in the past could do it with any kind of consistency and the circumstances of CBB now make it harder than ever to accomplish that at SJU; so let's see what happens. He is not the greatest bench coach in the world but many successful coaches are not exactly Mensa basketball tacticians. Should he be fired, IMO, no, but that is my opinion and others may disagree. Again, my opinion, but I think he should get an extension with a buyout, and again, others may disagree. But the incessant sophomoric posts back and forth, really just re-treads of the same messages posted a thousand times before is just tiresome and boring. To both sides, the pro and aniti Lavin factions - bring something to the board other than the same immature drivel; there is no right or wrong here because it is all just opinion.

So, pretend you Isaiah Briscoe and you are curious what each of the school's you have in your final list think about you....and so, you come on this site and look
up "Isaiah Briscoe" under the recuriting section,,, and you read the last multiple pages since you announced you would come here for Midnight Madness.
Your impression is............... (never mind answering)...it is just a hypothetical.
Recruits never read this stuff and are never influenced by it. It doesn't even give
them thought to connect it to comments of other competing coaches who have visited. It never raises a doubt.

Mods, time to clean this thread up. Everyone else, at least leave it off the recruiting threads if you can't keep it to the topic. It makes us look bad to recruits.

We haven't lost a game yet, we have a ton of experience, there are plenty of reasons to be excited, and we are right in it with a few REALLY good recruits.
