Is there anything official?

If St.John's were to construct a new on campus arena it should seat 8,500. Bigger games could be played off campus at MSG or Barlays.

Monmouth's new 4,100 seat arena cost $57M. Someone may be able to provide a reasonable estimate of what an 8,000 +/- arena would cost.

Does Monmouth have all chair backs? Binghamton built a beautiful arena in 2004 that seats just over 5,000 for basketball and close to 8,000 for concerts for 33.1 million (Appx 45 million in 2015 dollars). Of course construction costs are more expensive in Queens. I would guess between 75-100 million depending on its configuration.

$60 million (low ball amount) for a new on campus arena. $100,000/game to play at the garden. If we play an additional 6 games/yr at MSG, it would take 100 years to make a new arena worthwhile. Men should just play more at games at MSG. CA is still used by the women, volleyball and fencing.

As far as spending some 250 million on a new arena I have a proposal that saves 250 million.
Play the ten or so games at MSG as usual .
Play the one game at Brooklyn.
Let the people of Gard. City and the rest of Nassau pay for the arena they expect to have in 3 years. (12,000 capacity)
Move the 3 big east games played at CA arena this year to Nassau and 1 or 2 other games that have some drawing power and let the residents like myself pay for it. A plus is it is only 5 min from GC.
If a 12000 seat arena is built on campus more and more games will be played there and we lose MSG as a recruiting tool.

It's $62 million and change in today's dollars.

Enlighten me. Why is Nassau County going to build a 12,000 seat arena? Too small to get the Islanders back and to attract big time concerts. I think it would be a great place for St. John's to play a few games though.

Let's not ruin this thread that signifies IMO a truly great day for our program with debates on CA. Start a new thread

As a GC resident I can assure you that won't happen. On another note all that matters is that coach sustains the buzz around the program from this announcement. If we can put a good product on the floor in year 1 that will be a huge step.

I don't think we are debating. We are so excited that we are getting delusional.

@MettaWorldPeace: Yay St.Johns. @chrismullin17 helped me so much in the summer before my draft. Good job coach Lavin also. Future NCAA champs. #gochris

When they build a new arena, I want leather reclining seats with footrests, waiter service, and the soggy hotdogs replaced with Lobster Rolls. I want fans to get two timeouts each for bathroom breaks, and also the ability for each to eject one referee per game for bad calls.

Oh yea, and since Obekpa was suspended for smoking pot, all of you who are delirious will be drug tested immediately. Get out your paper cups, boys. Two week suspensions from Redmen.com

At this rate my karma might be under minus 200 by the end of next season.

I have no clue how the karma thing even works

I hope Mullin knows that ESPN will do everything they can to sabotage him.

How many dream team members went on to coach a college team ?

Or maybe better put. How many times has a kid had the chance to play college ball for an original dream team member ?

Mike, c'mon. You realize by asking that question you are just BEGGING for someone to bring up Clyde Drexler. Bad karma dude.

Let's just hope Chris is more Mayor than Glide. It is certainly an impactful hiring but all those who are proclaiming the glory days (that barely were) are back again sound not unlike the coachspeak fluff and bluster of STJs recently deposed coach. I am on board but not entirely assured.

True but I think it's a big selling point and I consider them 2 totally different type players with Mullin who got every ounce of talent out of himself 10 times over. Clyde was great but I never thought of him as a potential coach the way I see Mullin and Houston Cougars are what got me into college basketball as a fan
Cougars also got me into College basketball. Grew up in Houston and was at the Dome with 50,000+ people to see the Elvin Hayes led Cougars beat Lew Alcindor (scratched eye and all) and UCLA (71-69) and break UCLA's 68 game winning streak. Most amazing electric sporting event I've ever attended.

Envy you the experience! Truly one of college basketball's greatest games ever. Hard to top.

May I assume the lobster rolls are brought to your leather reclining seat? I would certainly hope so...
:)

I read the first sentence and wasn't sure where you were going with that. Then I said to myself, "Oh. Those cougars." That game was on Christmas or something, no?
