Is there anything official?

Some thought on the firing of Steve Lavin and the hiring of Chris Mullin:http://www.bigeastboards.com/

I'm not sure I'm going to like this new world of a happy Fun. I damn near cried reading his post of him crying during the Mullin presser.

And I'll admit it. I'm not even sure if I have ever heard the word "insouciance " used before

Goodman giving us a C. Let's see how he adjusts this when we get Slice and Pickney.

St. John's Red Storm: Chris Mullin

Career record: 0-0

I'm all for reconnecting with the glory days of the Johnnies, but last I checked Mullin has never coached. Maybe he'll be Fred Hoiberg, but I'm not sold. I think it depends on the quality of Mullin's staff and whether his staff can help get him players. So, this one might be altered after I see his complete coaching staff. But for now, it's a C.

Grade: C

He'd give Norm an A- still

Chris Mullin isn't just extending scholarship offers. He's giving out invitations to programs all over area to visit #sjubb

Obviously, that happens once workouts begin and staff is in place. But Chris Mullin wants to make it known everyone welcome at #sjubb

For Monte :) Amen I say!

Something tells me that even if coaches show up unannounced Chris will be there

Simply classic

Sorry, but I don't buy the idea that a college coach's "only job [is] to win college basketball games." Never did, never will. And I don't think it's necessary to bash Steven Lavin, or go so far as to "despise him," to celebrate Chris Mullin's appointment as head coach.

By "simply classic", I meant I found it hysterical. Edgy, as Fun is sometimes known to be, but hysterical none the less. My comment had nothing to do with how I feel about Lavin.

Ok. I'm going to say something nice about this article. I don't know if I've ever said anything nice publicly to Fun, because honestly, there are too many reasons to list here, most of them meritorious.

So I'll say this - that was a great article. Dead on in almost every facet. Agree with everything he wrote.

The only revelation is that there is a Missus Fun. God, one can only imagine that only many days, Missus No-Fun would be more appropriate if his public demeanor mirrors the private.

Fun usually craps on you if you are nice to him, another reason not to say anything nice. But whatever. It's a great piece.

So simple, it's genius.

Monte, that wasn't directed at you -- I should have replied directly to Fun's post, and not to yours. -- so no need to explain. Sorry for the misunderstanding.

I'm going to say something that every long time fan of St. John's can understand, and it's related to Mullin's open door policy welcoming coaches and players to visit St. John's.

Forget about Syracuse owning the Garden, and filling it to the rafters. Forget about all their on court success, and top 10 rankings.

They were NEVER, EVER, EVER, EVER New York City's team.

St. John's at it's heyday, was, and will be NYC's team. Come into work Monday, people talking about a St. John's game that weekend. Visit the bars, pizza joints, around MSG or in Penn Station before a game, and guys in suits and ties are downing a beer or a slice, and getting ready to fill up the Garden. Some were SJU grads, most were not. Every sports fan in NYC feels a part of St. John's when we are big time. (Syracuse? HAH!) It was not unlike the national aura that Notre Dame casts on millions of fans. We adopted hundreds of thousands of redmen fans who felt as much part of SJU as if they had gone here - some of you included. Those feelings haven't died - they are just long dormant. Like those 17 year cicadas they are awakening with a buzz. It's coming, it's coming. Mullin is the catalyst, and this isn't just some publicity stunt. It's authentic, the real deal, and it's not going to happen - it IS HAPPENING. Right in front of our eyes. Can't wait for this damned Final Four to be over, and already looking forward to next season.
