Does anyone really think recruiting is significantly affected by this year's team? Players are transferring en masse all over the nation basically over one issue and one issue only - playing time!!! Yes, we stunk last night, yes, we looked great against Syracuse - so using this line of reasoning players were knocking down our doors last week and this week we can't give away free food! Sorry, but it doesn't work that way. I know some of it is venting but man, some of it is just ridiculous. We have a very inexperienced team with NO quickness, seemingly devoid of any real leadership from Johnson and Mvouika; any coach and real player knows that leadership within the players on a team is as or more important than leadership from the coaches. Everyone expected this year to be tough, up but mostly down and now that it's here we get comments about the worst loss in history and no recruits will come here (exaggerating a bit.) Last night would not even make my Top 25 of worst losses and any recruit worth his salt and seriously considering SJU would be drooling at the playing time available here.

I happen to agree with you, but some folks just get too high after an upset & too low post an ugly loss. When they get loony, I find it easier to ignore it. They don't listen to objective analysis anyway. Re: recruiting success, it is a matter of playing time, building relationships, putting in the work, TV/MSG exposure & perceived style of play. One stunning, ugly game does not negate that. We will be fine as a program in short order, but, as I have said often, have a very tough year. Enjoy an occasional upset & keep your sense of humor is formula that works for me. Beat NJIT!

Put me in the looney crowd. I can take losses ( I'm a freaking st johns fan so I'm used to most of them by now ). I can even chalk up that first disgusting blowout loss in the exhibition game to the Division 10 team as our guys just started playing together and the staff just starting to coach together.

But when you get blown out not even competitive to Fordham then lose by what seemed like 100 something points in hawaii the first game then get blown out not even competitive to a team I never even heard of before the season started on your home floor then I'm sorry but the anger after a loss like that is warranted in my opinion.

I fully expect a shitload of losses come big east time and I'll be ok with it unless we go o for the conference but losses like last night are beyond anger level for me personally

Ok I vented.

Sometimes you stink and the other team stinks out the joint as well (Niagara). Once in a while, you play a terrible game against an inferior team, and your opponent decides to play the game of their life. Number 1, as Slice called him, was averaging 8 a game, and goes for more than 20 and is close to perfect from 3? The lesson to be learned is that you leave every college level player with a decent outside shot completely alone from 3, they may actually hit them. The good news is that DJ may be awakening from his coma. What I don't like is the mentality when DJ is in and the shot clock winds down. Give him the ball with 8 seconds on the clock and get out the way. I'd rather see good ball movement.

No doubt it was disgusting & embarrassing. I just think it will have zero impact on Bashir & other recruits, who know the deal this year. That said, I channeled my anger last night with Bashir leaving the building joke. :)

You mean Bashir didn't actually leave and he saw that debacle ? Damn now I'm even more pissed.

Just kidding. That and Brians text to me about Ralph wanting to leave early to go eat freshly baked christmas cookies were the things that kept my partial sanity last night

The team has bounced back from every humiliating defeat. They have shown character in that regard. One problem is that we have no options other than Mussini at the point. The blueprint for giving SJU trouble is hound Mussini. Most teams have quick points. He has trouble both on O and D with quickness. It would have been nice to see Lovett from day one,but I will take him now if that works out. I don't expect miracles, as there is always an adjustment period.

It's embarrassing but I expected some embarrassing loses this year so I'm not too concerned. Totally agree that this loss won't have a negative impact on recruiting...good players will see an opportunity to get immediate playing time for a Big East program. I think we read more as lacking talent than lacking coaching right now so I don't think recruits will be scared to come.

I'm pretty much on board with this line of thinking. Yes it was a bad loss, but I expected a very rough year this year. Trying not to get too down after losses.

Also people fail to realize how much the game has changed in the past 10-20 years. There is so much more parity now. Any team can beat any other team on a given night. There is no longer the large gap between all of the D-1 teams to where you can expect blowouts over mid majors. If this loss had happened 20 years ago for St. John's I'd be more concerned.

Let's see how our team responds on Sunday. Need better D & ball movement. Need more structure going forward. We do not have enough talent to free lance. Need to get Mussini the ball off screens more often.
Still have lots of faith in this staff. Go Johnnies!

All this 'this conference is better than that conference' talk is nonsense IMO. College basketball has become extremely homogeneous, anybody can beat anybody. Conference affiliation has nothing to do with who wins when it comes time tip off.
