Incarnate Word, Fri. Dec. 18, 7pm, FS1 & 970 AM

The only way this loss matters is if it sways the opinions of any recruits. I don't think it will, so I'm not worried.
I think we get Ahmed. And the german.
Alkins isn't happening regardless. Neither is thon maker.
So at the end of the season this loss won't mean a damn thing.

Why you so certain about Rawle?

Let's see how our team responds on Sunday. Need better D & ball movement. Need more structure going forward. We do not have enough talent to free lance. Need to get Mussini the ball off screens more often.
Still have lots of faith in this staff. Go Johnnies!

I am sorry but Mussini cannot play point and be run off screens at the same time. He is our only point option right now, just the way it is. We don't need more structure, we need players/experience for the players we have now. Just watched the Hall and I am not sure we have ONE player that would play significant minutes for them at this point in time. Down the road, definetly; right now, arguably, no.

Don't need to run the offense with one guy at the point. He's one of our best shooters and not the only guard capable of distributing.

Again sorry but he is the only player on the team capable of even having a chance to get us into an offense and he isn't very successful at this point in his development. No disrespect meant but you are amongst a handful of posters here who think there is a grand strategy shift that will change the reality of this season but you are just kidding yourself. Just to be fair, who do we have play the point and distribute? Mvouika has shown he can't do it, Ellison has been hurt but in his short time playing he doesn't appear to be capable, so who?

Actually, I was thinking of Johnson.

Did not even enter my mind since to me he is by far the biggest disappointment other than the NCAA's treatment of LoVett but on reflection it couldn't hurt trying since all he basically has done is jacked jumpers; yes I know he has made a few and a couple of big ones. Anyway, don't see it working but that doesn't mean it wouldn't be worth trying. IMO, I think the staff wants to get Mussini the experience because next year he will be the 3rd guard and come off for both LoVett and Ponds. That's just speculation though.

the best thing about this thread is it will fade into the abyss after todays game and hopefully I will never have to see the words Incarnate Word ever again

What I learned from this thread is that Incarnate Word is the greatest team never to have won a division 1 game prior to blowing us out on our home court but it doesn't matter because the German kid is still gonna come, maybe. Can someone let me know if today's game matters

I floated this idea a couple of weeks ago. Her certainly couldn't be any worse than Mussini, who's a worse PG than Gene Lawrence. It's fashionable to bash Johnson and you have to scapegoat somebody so 'all he does is jack up jumpers' but vs IW he led the team in points, assists, and rebounds. And yeah, that was vs IW, but what does that say about the other guys. Over the course season DJ is 2nd in scoring, 3rd in assist and 4th in rebounds. He's essentially Phil Greene - a .28 three pointer shooter three years into his college career - except he does things other than shoot. He's obviously not the answer at the point but he's big, he's a pretty good passer and it moves Mussini off the ball, where Mussini has already demonstrated that he's not particularly good. And if there's no pressure bringing the ball up court it doesn't make too much of a difference who dribbles the ball around at the top of the key for 20 seconds.

Nope apparently it doesn't. I was going to sell my ticket so I could watch the giant game but I didn't want to feel the internet wrath of Bucknasty so I gave the ticket away to someone who is a st johns fan but I can't guarantee he will show up because he made the mistake of watching fridays game on tv.

I tried telling him fridays loss didn't matter but he refuses to believe me

I hope we see them again. Matter of fact, I want to play them next year, for revenge.

Never let facts get in the way of a good whine. IW is not a bad team, but we can be, reality sucks. As for today, I am an SJU fan for 50+ years and they all matter to me; here's a novel idea, why don't you decide its importance for yourself?

If you can't handle the roller coaster ride, with most of it this season being comprised of brief rises followed by steep drops, it's best to limit yourself to the merry go round or the cups and saucers.

What I learned from this thread is that Incarnate Word is the greatest team never to have won a division 1 game prior to blowing us out on our home court.......

tux.... Who told you that Incarnate Word had never won a division 1 game before defeating StJohns?

IW was a D1 program during last year's 2014- 15 season and played in the Southland Conference.

Last season IW finished with a an overall record of 18 wins and 11 losses and an in conference record or 10 wins and 8 losses. In addition IW had a win last season over Big 10 member Nebraska, Ivy member Princeton as well as teams from the Western Athletic Conference and Sun Best.

I am not sure why you or anyone else would say that IW's win over StJohns is its first D1 win ever.

Unfortunately it now morphs into the NJIT thread. :(
