In Season Tidbits

NCJohnie's comment on Ellison being a good guy who didn't have the talent to play in the big east was right on. In fact you could say it about fifteen SJU recruits in the past five years.
Let's try getting some not so good guys who can play in the big east.

Not to claim credit but Paul and I had this one. My reasoning was I saw size, length, athleticism, consistent improvement and hard work even if numbers didn't translate. On the other hand wasn't a big fan of James Harden at ASU and he leads the NBA in scoring though still not a fan of his game (do recognize his tremendous scoring ability now though).

Congrats to Tariq for achieving his dream of playing in an NBA game! He and Simon were my two favorite Johnnies from the Mullin years. It won't surprise me if Justin manages to play a game with the Bulls before the year is over. Both 110% effort guys.

Totally disagree! Ellison specialized in playing out of control. Not at all a CMA type player.

If Ellison has as much talent as half the current roster is debatable but my point is even if that's true he still doesn't have big east talent.

Zagoria
Former @StJohnsBBall and @IonaGaelsMBB commit @NorvelPelle05 now has a guaranteed contact with the Sixers, per @PompeyOnSixers.

Guaranteed for the rest of this year with a team option for 2020-21 worth $1.5M

Pelle had 5 points and 2 blocks last night. Vs Memphis

Justin Champagnie had 30 points & nine rebounds, also was 3/4 on threes in Pitt win over Georgia Tech today. Talented family.

Stock Up: Samir Doughty

“It feels like a lifetime ago Doughty was a St. John’s commit. It was actually five years ago. His career has been a whirlwind since. From decommitting after then-coach Steve Lavin was let go, ruled a partial qualifier his first season at VCU, transferring after a solid freshman year, and now being the leading scorer for one of the premier teams in the country after serving as a quality role player in Auburn’s run to the Final Four last year. The 6-foot-4 senior from Philadelphia has been one of the keys to the Tigers’ surprising run atop the SEC after losing three starters, averaging career-highs in points (15.5), rebounds (3.9) and assists (2.6).“

Give Tony Chiles credit for initially seeing Doughty’s potential and recruiting him, not a four star kid either.
Chatter that Greg W will work with shooting coach in off season. That seems a good move. See Evan Daniels interview on how this helped McClung of GT;

https://twitter.com/evandaniels/status/1226879844350382081?s=21
. Great that Williams will get a tutorial on shooting over the summer., Not to be negative but , McClung was already a very good Shooter last year . I would have hope that Mullin and Richmond would have spent some time with Willians and our other Players last season . 2 HOF Players and arguably both were as good as shooters as the NBA had in their playing years . Shooting is like playing the Violin , you are a good one or not .. it’s God given to an extent . I hope Williams improves but, as a Jr next year , he’s likely to be a Player off the Bench . Giving respite to the Starting guards .
