(Holiday Fest) Princeton, Sun. Dec. 9, 1p, FS1 / 970 WNYM

nice solid games by Clarke and LJ did a nice job defending smaller players without fouling. probably our best game in terms of committing poor/weak/stupid foul. Kept Princeton off the foul line.

Clark is both rebounding better and going to the basket stronger the last couple of games. Progress.
If Keita comes back strong at the end of the year, we will have a very solid 8-9 man rotation.
Still some rough spots with defense and rebounding. Still 8-0 and rolling. I’ll take it. Gotta tighten this stuff up incrementally.
9-0

Not to dwell on small stuff, but apparently sitting three guys was a lateness issue per Braziller

Not surprised. Based on how they react t0 three point shooters, lateness is the norm for this team.

Great shot guys! I didn’t pick up the post about you all meeting until now, while I’m on the train headed home. Next time. I’m
In 108, row 12.

Given that Clark and Simon are Senior leaders I don't think that's small stuff at all. Without knowing what it was, sounds like it was dealt with and hopefully doesn't happen again.

Richmond Aririguzoh, 6'9, 240 was a problem for us inside.  Credit to Clark and Simon for helping guard this future doctor.  It was good to see Keita walking normally and as has been stated he is going to be a key player when we start playing teams without Ivy League future physicians on their front line.  Aririguzoh has an interesting story.  He was born in Italy to Nigerian parents and immigrated to the U.S. at the age of 12.
The game itself was very entertaining with a fast pace that allowed the Princeton guards to run amok for much of the game.  Cannady did pretty much whatever he wanted on offense so as others stated our perimeter defense still sucks.  Great to be 9-0 and there should be no reason not to be 12-0 in a couple of weeks.
Hopefully by then we will have a semblance of an inside game because without one it will not be a very happy new year.
Not to dwell on small stuff, but apparently sitting three guys was a lateness issue per Braziller
it’s true. One of the guys told us but we couldn’t say anything but since Z put it out 114 can confirm

And obviously goes without saying but without Paul creatimg my favorite site on the internet none of this would even be possible

Fun game.

Edit. I see it was done a couple posts before this.

Are we ever going to learn how to defend the perimeter? This isn’t overly complex...
Way past the time that they should have grasped that & execute. Frustrating group defensively.
Mullin doesn’t seem to demand it. They should have invited Princeton to give it to a big. Their bigs stunk.
We had this game blown open and all the momentum until Coach put in Williams, Trimble & Dixon together and Princeton went on 11-0 run. Frustrating.
Williams substitution was fine. Doing it without leaving a Ponds or heron in is just careless

Otis Wrote: How good is 4 & 3 Princeton ? Princeton has losses to powerhouses Leigh and Fairleigh Dickinson.

St. John's is up 3 points at the half.

If St. John's cannot get separation to put away a 4 - 3 win Princeton team then we will be disappointed when St. John;s plays Villanova, Marquette, Seton Hall and others in the Big East. Not good.

It is true Princeton has not played all that well early and has a couple of losses that don't look great on their resume. However I would point out that after their senior star guard Devin Cannady, that their second best player seemed to clearly be Jaelin Llewellyn a four star freshman. The thing is that Llewellyn had not played for Princeton before today due to a foot injury (see link below). So this Princeton team we played was much stronger than they had been before today's game.

That all said I thought we played very well in spots and somewhat lackluster at other times. Ponds was great again and Figueroa, Clark, Simon and Heron had some good moments too.

The problem with assessing this team's overall ability is that we have not played an opponent of a relatively equal or superior strength yet. We will need to play better when the competition improves when conference play begins. However I think we will likely play better as the games get tougher. The best stretches we have played thus far has been when we have been down and in trouble. When it has come to crunch time the team has come through and found a way to win.

Thus far we are one of nine undefeated teams in the country and while one could complain about style points or project that we aren't really all that good, nine and zero is still nine and zero. So regardless we could not be any better than we are record wise. Going forward we have that undefeated record to build on and that is a good thing.

Always a pleasure to meet fellow posters.

Jack Williams is the real deal. I never believed a teen age kid (when he first started posting) was doing those posts. The guy is wise beyond his years.

Jack, keep posting and visiting 114
