I also like that Coach Mullin did not throw his players under the bus for their transgressions and kept the matter private. Very classy. He clearly is a players coach and hopefully recruits will notice that.
yep like Lavin hid the rushers and Chris stuff you gotta respect a coach for that stuff. Would be too easy to say those 3 guys were late and that’s why I sat them. Actually I wouldn’t have had a problem with that either but to each his own and I can see both points
I would not have had a problem with it either but I believe it best to keep stuff quiet.
I remember Joey T benching his best player an entire game I believe his first season but never saying a word publicly. Shenneika came back better than before , played harder, graduated, played pro and is now on staff doing a very nice job and has the utmost respect for him. Sometimes less said is more.
I believe in firm discipline. I also believe that for minor infractions, once its over and discipline exacted, it's over. It's also an internal matter, and no one's business.
My son was at a marianist grade school that has a demerit system. He got 5 demerits for doing as his mom instructed, using his cell phone on day 1 to call home before he stepped on the bus. He was told that in the future he could keep his phone in his knapsack but turned off. Somehow during one day his phone got jostled and turned on. A friend texted him at the end of day in home room and the chime caused the teacher to give him 5 more demerits.
At that school ten demerits disqualify you from eligibility for national honor society in the 8th grade, and demerits carry over from 7th. This destroyed his chance to go to regis because the school would not recommend him even though these were the only two infractions of his entire school year.
He went to a different jesuit hs, was in their honors program, and went on to a great Jesuit college. Oh, by the way, at that school once a transgression of the rules occur, once to price is exacted, its forgotten.
I suspect Mullin is a no nonsense coach who will forget this. The benches players hopefully won't.
