If you actually believe there's a chance of Pitino ever landing here, then that is probably the most optimistic thing ever thought on this board.
Lmao, Touché. I’m just so tired of losing.
Did you used to sit in our old MSG section before the garden renovations and were on the Nova SlyFox bus trip Lavins first year ?
That was me. I’m still at every game!
but that Lavin 1st year was like a religious experience :)
We’ve only been .500 or better in conference three of the last fifteen years. Our last three coaching hires have not panned out at all, we haven’t won a tournament game since 2000, We haven’t even been to the conference tournament semi finals in 18 years (That’s hard to do!). Owens is leaving, class coming in is not good, 2019 we have nobody big lined up.

Greg St. Jean is worse than most CYO coaches, he’s less qualified than an appointed family member of a politician. Why are people so set that next year we’ll be better? What Could possibly leave people believing that? Was it our drop from 8th to 9th place in the conference? We were a worse team this year than last year. The strategies currently used by the administration Are’nt working. you A change is needed, we may have to make some sacrifices but Rick Pitino can deliver WINS!
"never thought I’d say this, but I’m tired of all the optimism on this board."

ALL the optimism? I applied a very rudimentary algorithm to all the comments over the last 12 weeks. The results will surprise you. There were 15 posters who were 100% optimistic about the direction of the program. There were 85 posters who were on the fence, and there were 30 who were very pessimistic.
Does that sound like a lot of optimism to you?
I applied unique algorithm to your Pitino for coach thread and found 1 person is very optimistic that Pitino is a good candidate and 129 posters think you are bat shit crazy.
Here is the Pitino algorithm for reference:

There have been many a ridiculous thread on Redmen.com but this one takes the cake. This is the dumbest and most outrageous thread of all time wrapped in one.
We have been terrible for so long. This is someone who could immediately come on board and turn the whole thing around. Is this thread last ridiculous then people wanting to give Norm a 7th year? Steve Lavin had a serial killer on his roster, Chris Mullin recruited a repeat felon who dressed up in drag and was prostituting himself out in a florida motel. How is that even close to being as ridiclous as hiring Pitino?

But no, our moral high ground is shunning Pitino for accusations that can’t be proven at Louisville. He is adamantly denying these and being as transparent as possible to fight them. Jesus spoke of forgiveness in his last words, I say we give Rick a chance!
First, we've only been terrible for three seasons, and Mullin's second season showed radical improvement. Last season there were rays of sunlight in an otherwise poor season record-wise.

Just to be theologically correct, you have to ask for forgiveness to be forgiven.

There is a discussion of who committed the greater affront, Peter's denial or Judas' betrayal. At best both were equal offenses, and some say Peter's three times denial was worse. Both nearly immediately realized they were wrong. Peter, though was able to confront the resurrected Jesus, and reconcile (John 21:15). Judas however, rather than admit his sin and seek reconciliation, chose to kill himself.

It's lent, so a little bible study here.

I'm all for guys like Pitino, Peter Rose, and others who commit transgressions to own up to them, bear the consequences, and reconcile with the public and perhaps be somewhat restored. Neither Pitino, nor Rose have done that, and as such don't deserve any such forgiveness since they won't fully own up to their transgressions.

Pass.
Yea. Let Pitino repent by donating the money that he made while at Louisville to charity.

Judis' betrayal far worse, then Peter's cowardice.
Yeah, but Voldemort was worse than both of them combined.

You may not have meant that, but even to approximate that may be the stupidest thing posted this year. I can assure you if we matched match your basketball wits against his, you would look even dumber than that assertion.

First off, St. Jean has spent his entire life around basketball, mostly in the pros. He had analyzed tapes for years as part of his own player development, where he was a starting point guard at Wesleyan (and an 85% FT shooter). HE worked in the NBA analyzing game tapes and helping head coaches formulate strategy, and wasn't simply given this job because of his dad. You think Mullin would hire an idiot to help him on the bench? HE could have hired Terrence, and even then Terrence was a HS coach, but I believe he went with a guy he knew could do the job.
Sorry I got that impression from the SJU press release announcing his hiring:

http://www.redstormsports.com/sports/m-baskbl/spec-rel/100615aac.html

He was a three year captain, and from other sources I understand he underwent 4 or 5 surgeries that derailed his college career. That info is also available on the web.

If this could happen it would be the smartest thing you could do and that is precisely why it won’t happen

If one doesn’t have to stoop to pick up dog poop, one doesn’t. We do not have to stoop that low.
We’re on the cusp of breaking through to reviving the program.
Players make the coaches, and we have a small but very solid trifecta of talent in our Core 3, plus Dixon, Keita, Diakite, and signed incoming recruits.
Add 2 solid bigs and consider us ‘revived’.
Then we must leverage that with a very solid 2019 class and again become a successful program.
At this point, we do not have to hold our noses for a guy like Pitino.
