Hire Rick Pitino!
Guys, let's keep theology in perspective here. The issues are "did Pitino do her under or on the table" and "did he smell his finger afterwards". The way things are going in Jamaica we may need a recruiting miracle to plug the dam. We are all praying for that miracle. But you know what Saint James Morrison said about prayer. .......

God Wills It !

Of course you are right. I meant to type blasphemy and was distracted, but the full answer is blasphemy against the holy spirit.

In the wake of a crappy season, almost all of the threads are nonsense, unless you follow the recruiting threads. I have little interest in them because I don't care about anyone until they get here.
at least now all of the heretics on redmen.com can rest a little easier but all those suffering from scrupulosity may be having some serious anxiety.

We can all agree however, that obviously Rick Pitino is a big time sinner. He's also a great recruiter and coach. The only reason that I don't go out on a limb and say that he would NEVER be coach at St. John's is because I said that Trump (also a big time sinner) would never be President so I've learned my lesson. Both of these guys are probably heretics too. ;) I forgive them both. But I think we are about to have a great season. Yeah I know "heard it before" but I like our guys coming back and they are seriously battle tested. The guys that actually know how good our staff is (players like Clark who also played for Izzo) love our staff.
Thanks for the correction. I know I can count on you to be theologically correct.

The big thing is, and I really think this is a big thing, is that last season gave about as much hope as any 4-12 conference team could create. I wouldn't be shocked by a 9-9 conference record next season, or even 10-8, and an at large bid. Normally without a complete overhaul would i think a 5 or 6 game swing in conference is possible. But I do for next year

As a devout Celtics fan since 1957 I had occasion to speak with a Hall of Fame Celtic during the time Pitino was their coach. His comment was that the leprechaun had left the building; that Pitino was continually disrespectful to Red Auerbach and Celtic tradition. No thanks. We are the school of Joe Lapchick and Lou Carnesecca and hopefully soon, a Mullin led tournament team. Besides, Pitino would insist we hire Stormy Daniels as Assistant HC.

I agree.

I never thought I’d say this, but I’m tired of all the optimism on this board.

We’ve only been .500 or better in conference three of the last fifteen years. Our last three coaching hires have not panned out at all, we haven’t won a tournament game since 2000, We haven’t even been to the conference tournament semi finals in 18 years (That’s hard to do!). Owens is leaving, class coming in is not good, 2019 we have nobody big lined up.

Greg St. Jean is worse than most CYO coaches, he’s less qualified than an appointed family member of a politician. Why are people so set that next year we’ll be better? What Could possibly leave people believing that? Was it our drop from 8th to 9th place in the conference? We were a worse team this year than last year. The strategies currently used by the administration Are’nt working. you A change is needed, we may have to make some sacrifices but Rick Pitino can deliver WINS!

If you actually believe there's a chance of Pitino ever landing here, then that is probably the most optimistic thing ever thought on this board.

You may not have meant that, but even to approximate that may be the stupidest thing posted this year. I can assure you if we matched match your basketball wits against his, you would look even dumber than that assertion.

I could focus on those things that you do and be pessimistic and I don't think there is anything to be gained by making generalized hyperbole about St. Jean, but here is what leaves me optimistic:

1) This past season we had 3 poor showings. The Xavier loss in BET could be considered the 4th but it was a good showing until they ran out of gas. So I'll give you 4 on the pessimist side. If they looked like crap and clueless for most games or having no strategy to overcome mismatches which we saw a lot of under previous coaches, I'd be right with you on the pessimism.
2) We were consistently competitive in games that we were over-matched and even pulled out a miraculous win against butler with the far end of our non-existent bench being major contributors.
3) The team showed a lot of heart coming out of one of the worst slogs in history with not one but two historic wins.
4) The play against top teams.
5) the losing streak. I think they learned from it and grew from it. It showed as much.
6) Simon.
7) Clark.
8.) Ponds.
9) I'm going to make an assumption that the staff learned a lesson from not bringing in a big man. If they don't, I will join you on the pessimism train.

First off, St. Jean has spent his entire life around basketball, mostly in the pros. He had analyzed tapes for years as part of his own player development, where he was a starting point guard at Wesleyan (and an 85% FT shooter). HE worked in the NBA analyzing game tapes and helping head coaches formulate strategy, and wasn't simply given this job because of his dad. You think Mullin would hire an idiot to help him on the bench? HE could have hired Terrence, and even then Terrence was a HS coach, but I believe he went with a guy he knew could do the job.

Paul i really hope your right. There certainly are things to look on and be positive, it’s just whether these things come to fruition next season that matter to me. I’m not usually this negative, but Syracuse making the sweet 16 really tipped me over the edge.

I get the frustration, but in this instance we need to be more realistic than usual. Mullin will get just as much time as the other guys who weren't the most famous basketball alum in school history. Pitino is just too sleazy for here now. If we want to be super-optimistic, I'm sure there are other names that would be more palatable to the administration and fans. But even if it comes to that, we still need money to pay them. Of course winning generates money, but does the school president view it that way?

Bobby is probably the most pro-basketball President we've ever had. He also understand economics extremely well as that is his PhD (farm economics actually, which he jokes about). I think he knows you have to spend to make money and also knows the relationship between winning marquee sports and enrollment. Beyond that he is a super fan who love SJU basketball. What that translates to, I'm not sure.

So Beast was right he was a starting point guard for Wesleyan. He started one game in 4 years probably on senior night.
