At some point you have to take a risk to get to the next level. So far Mullin and company have built a very good roster without having to take many after the Slice mistake. This might be the one to take.[/quol
Life can evolve in strange ways...what might seem like a disaster can become a blessing...the program is going in a nice direction and might surprise even the most ardent & optimistic of posters...I wonder if "slice" will rue the day he failed to work through whatever the hell was happening behind the scenes...As he stands as an outsider glimpsing at SJU success!
all the best
Let's play hypothetical. Say SJU/CM brings in Rice as some sort of TBD assistant role, which is OK. Let's also say CM is here for 7 or 10 years, just enough time to get the program back on top, declare victory, moves on, and turn the program over to a trusted assistant. That won't be Mitch or Matt, so it will be between St. Jean and Rice. Do you want Rice as the HC of SJU? I don't. Hopefully, IF Rice were to be hired here, he stays 3-4 years and gets a job offer someplace else after keeping his nose clean here. All hypothetical.

Good post. Additionally although I do not endorse his previous coaching methods let's remember young men the same age or younger than his players were join the military service every day and I dare said boot camp is probably a tad tougher than a Mike Rice practice. So do people think he is going to come in and immediately return to the Mike Rice of Rutgers. Disrespect coach Mullin, abuse the kids, destroy everything he worked hard to repair. Blow up his chance of doing what he loves best, coaching. I think he will be a very good hire. A lot of his old players at Rutgers stand by him. I do not feel as the media will kill the hire, rather support it. . I know I will
And who sought counseling for a problem. It would be one thing to hire the guy straight out of Rutgers. But, the guy got help. Big difference. This will be a grave mistake for the program.
A grave mistake was hiring a coach with a loosing record at his alma mater.
A grave mistake was hiring a psychopath who declared from day 1 that his dream job was a big state school.
A grave mistake was hiring a coach whose agent sucked us in to hiring him and when he insisted on bringing his fat lazy son along should have been given the door.
A grave mistake was hiring a life time assistant with a loosing record at his Division 3 alma mater.
Hiring an experienced Division 1 head coach who had a winning record at 1 program and a loosing record at another local school that has never had a winning record, who is knowledgeable, passionate, fiery, stresses defence , recruited well and has a slew of great high school players playing for him, as a third assistant or other position, is anything but a grave mistake IMHO.
+1The Slice debacle set SJUBB back a lot economically. Because of that, we are limited w who we can hire. W Rice you will get a lot of bang for your buck. He brings things to the table that our other coaches don't. He isn't an imbicele and knows if he misbehaves his career is over , as opposed to the opposite scenario, where he could be a college head coach again if he plays his cards right.

Unless they give him a contract like Slice and it falls apart as quickly as Slice, I think calling it a grave mistake is a tad bit dramatic.

I am for giving him a chance. But lets look back and stop putting all the blame on slice I believe there is more to this story and CM MUST TAKE SOME OF THE BLAME

Not sure where I blamed Slice for anything in my post. . .
