Guys We Missed Out On

@Brewsterhoops tweet;

Max Hooper '11 drilled 7 three-pointers (16 in last 2 games) to lead Oakland over UW-Milwaukee on Monday.

@ MCN, that's actually a really good comparison. I was comparing him in my mind to Willie Glass, but I think yours could be better.

Make no mistake, Yakwe is a far better athlete than Minlend. He's longer and taller too. I'd just like to see him develop efficient offense inside the arc. Minlend was a good close to midrange scorer, even out to three. If Yakwe can get that midrange going, as well as crafty around the basket, he can be real good.

He kinda teased us against the cuse zone when he got some passes just inside the foul line and hit a couple of jumpers in the soft spot there.

I'm watching this LSU/Oklahoma game. 12 minutes into the first half, no Brandon Sampson

Second half and still no sign. Rowan shot poorly but had 9 points and 7 rebounds in a big N.C State win over Miami.

the Kentucky vs kansas game should have been a matchup against two top ten kids in Diallo and Labissere and it ends up they will be lucky to play a combined 10 minutes.

Diallo, in fact, did play 10 minutes. Ended up with same stats he had at the end of the first half: 2 points, 3 rebounds, which leads me to ask if he saw any time in the second half (which I missed until the very end plus the OT).

Meanwhile, LSU's Sampson was a DNP against Oklahoma. Unless he's injured, he's gotta be frustrated with his role.

I think Diallo and Sampson posts are rapidly approaching needing to be shifted to a thread titled "Guys We Apparently Didn't Miss Out On After All"

Watching LSU a lot this year -- the Simmons factor makes them highly interesting -- they remind me a lot of the Lavin 2013-2014 squad that just missed the tourney. Plenty of talent, lots of interesting pieces that can fill different roles and create matchup problems -- but disjointed and not well coached.

Diallo getting PT against Kentucky. Self said he had a "great practice yesterday."

Very Lavinesque.
Actually when Lavin heard Self say Dialllo had a great practice he told him if he had any redshirts that had a great practice he should immediately insert them into the starting line-up and burn a year of their eligibility.

DNP 3 of their last 5 games.

I still think these two guys are very talented. It's too early to say whether they made poor choices, especially since neither is a one-and-done. Who knows, over the long haul, they may flourish right where they are.

The one inarguable piece is that their process of maturity and development is behind the pace it would have been at SJU.

In the end, I am comfortable with our current recruiting and wish Sampson and Diallo luck.

Diallo did get a couple of minutes in the 2nd half of a great very entertaining game.

Briscoe made hist first four free throws an then went 2 for 8 from the line the rest of the game and is shooting like 40% from the line. Kansas bricked a bunch too.

Diallo and Sampson are not seeing a lot of time but they are playing for ranked teams that have plenty of options. Diallo is probably is a disappointment but does not mean he won't turn out to be the player everyone expects in the long run.

LSU is a ranked team?
