Guys We Missed Out On

Zach B;
One-time #sjubb commit Brandon Sampson didn't even play for LSU tonight in loss.

Something is up....maybe hurt. He has been averaging 20 minutes per game.

Since Hornsby arrived his time has been cut significantly.

meanwhile Maverick Rowan is starting and averaging 13.2 ppg for 10 and 3 NC State

Watched some of the NC State game tonight. Maverick certainly is a player. Going to be very good.

Prepare the transfer papers to SJU. Man, there was a time where high quality transfers were a staple of our roster.

Read this morning that Sampson was an injury scratch last night.

The first sentence wasn't serious. The second was.

Brandon Sampson did not score in 8 minutes of play v Baylor & Diallo played very little for Kansas as well last night. Both kids probably envisioned major minutes from get go.

Both kids would have gotten major minutes had they come to st John's

So would I. :)

Envisioned, or led to believe?

Not me
There's no market for a short out of shape PG who can shoot but can't run anymore

Maybe it's good Sampson didn't come then. He has been playing poorly and although he'd be getting more minutes at SJU his play might not be any better.

Add Sampson to our class last year and you're looking at a top class- on paper- with high expectations. What happens if Sampson comes here and plays similarly to how he's playing for LSU? Could be bad perception wise for the new coaching staff. Also may block future recruits like Ponds or Alkins from committing.

Rowan on the other hand we could've used.

I understand that Rowan is averaging 13 Points a game. And I understand that dad went to SJU. But take a closer look at his game log. 4 games where he had just 1 FG. Seems to be a real chucker and compiler. Plus the two times I've watched him and NC State play he was putrid. I know it's just two games that I've seen but it's more than looking at just numbers on a screen with some nostalgia thrown in

I'm too young for nostalgia to be a factor but I am from Raleigh and my brother goes there so I've watched a few NCSU games this year. Maverick does throw up a lot of shots (some bad shots) and his defense is poor. However, in nearly every game I saw NCSU was in a tight one and Rowan hit some big threes at the right time which resulted in a win. One of them was against High Point. Forget who the other games were against. Maybe this was just a coincidence but the commentators were saying this happened often.

Looking at his stats, they are very similar to Mussini's (including in terms of shooting percentages). If we had Rowan he'd help the offense by being a 3 point threat and would take some of the pressure off Mussini.

I'm not saying Rowan is a star but I'd absolutely take him.

Fair. Only thing this team is missing is a PG. sad how much one position dictates all. Not sure who we could have had in theory last spring by the time Mullin took over.

Seriously? The only thing this team has is the potential of Sima and Yakwe, and a whole bunch of guys who should be serviceable 7/8/9 guys on a BE roster, some now, some in the future.

Yea seriously. Team isn't losing to Incarnate or NJIT if it had a floor leader. Probably not Fordham. Not saying they would be beating Vandy or Indiana or winning the Big East but they team would be much more competitive and allow others to slide into natural roles and enhance what they are actually good at as opposed to masking in other areas.

Mea culpa. I didn't realize the results of the games vs. NJIT, Fordham and Incarnate Word were the barometers by which this team should be measured.

Then what are the barometers in your mind
