Guys We Missed Out On

21. Los Angeles Clippers

Isaiah Briscoe
Kentucky
Freshman
Guard

When Austin Rivers is your backup point guard, you need help. I think Doc Rivers will really appreciate what Briscoe brings to the table.

Briscoe already is built like a 10-year NBA vet, but he also has decided to become a lockdown defender at Kentucky. He sees the floor well, can score and has shown a willingness to take a role outside the spotlight. If he were playing at a program where he was the featured star at point guard, I think he'd go even higher.

I read this and I think of Isaiah Whitehead, whose draft stock has gone down dramatically sice he assumed the role of star guard. All depends on the program, of course. Harkless and Sampson got there, Jordan and Harrison didn't. Actually, who is the last guard that SJU sent to the NBA?

FWIW.....Malik Beasley is killing it at Florida State. He took a visit to SJU (with Amar), but I don't know if we were ever really in contention. In any event, he is their leading scorer (18.6 pts.) and an excellent shooter.

Sampson is struggling at LSU. Not shooting very well. That team is a train wreck.

That kid Payton is starting to light up the Pac10. Hopefully Lewis and Broadnax start to come around.

Just saw an ESPN highlight featuring Payton Jr.

Apple didn't fall too far from the tree.

If memory (my only one of his Redmen career) serves correct Broadnax hit a game winning shot against FDU just before departing SJU.

Yes, and it was at the Garden. The kid was beaming after hitting that shot. Probably the last time he smiled while he was here.

Maverick Rowan is averaging almost 15/game & getting prime minutes at NC State FYI.

Sampson missed out on us. Playing poorly for a bad team. Trying to beat Houston right now.

Not shooting the ball very well including a 3 point game today. All he does is score. Very few rebounds and assists. Team is not as good as last years.

Brandon Sampson's PT has been reduced significantly, further complicated by return of Keith Hornsby, transfer from NC Asheville. (Who hurt us at CA a few years ago). Yesterday Sampson had 2 points & played 13 minutes in loss to Houston. He can't be happy.

I wrote here before that posters were overestimating his loss. But he's still a talented player. I actually thought he could do 13-14 ppg here with a ton of minutes vs. 9 or so there. Home will always be home, but he picked a bad situation, at least for his first season. The coach is horrible. Plenty of other Southern schools close to home that would have been a much better setting for him.

Agree but must say I am very happy with Mussini who will slide over once Lovett becomes eligible. I also like Ellison and am cheering for the kid to be healthy. While he did not have Brandon's stats he will be a fine player for us. Also in the running for Bashir and Alkins who may not have had the interest if Brandon was here. In the end of the day I wish Brandon all the best and believe it will work out best for us in the long run.

Zach B;
One-time #sjubb commit Brandon Sampson didn't even play for LSU tonight in loss.

Something is up....maybe hurt. He has been averaging 20 minutes per game.
