Gtown rematch game thread...

I also hope Branch's injury is not that bad. But, watching Hooper and Gift helping him into the locker room, it looked like he couldn't even put any pressure on it. On another note, I'm not saying that we would have won this game, but, if Gift was playing I don't think that Nate Lubick has the kind of game that he did.

You has to bring up Gift?? Don'g get me started! LOL!

Saw this on twitter regarding the post-game scrap

Nearly a post-game brawl just now - Obekpa and Garrett from St. John's. AB and Hopkins involved for Gtown, started earlier with Trawick.

G'town has been and always will be a dirty team. Doesn't surprise me that something started. I love Garrett's toughness. I think we need him for rebounds in a game like this although I would like to see him finish on a more consistent basis. Seemed like he missed several point blank shots.
I think this game boils down to a match-up problem for us. We do not match-up well with them.
I agree with other posters who suggest that we should have looked to fast break more although that becomes difficult when you permit a team to hit an unreal % from the floor and don't rebound.
I can't say that I expected them to win this game. I look forawrd to them bouncing back against UCONN.
I have been so impressed with Sir Dom lately. The kid seems to be one of the few that attempts to drive to the basket. In addition, while I don't think it should be a first option for him, he has shown that he can knock down a three.

First, the good SJ basketball news-----the lady storm almost knocked off #3 Uconn.

The bad news is we are so thin and weak up front that we let a 6'8 white boy that can't jump have a record game as opponents continue to exploit us inside. At least God's Gift was utilized in this game.......he helped carry off Jamal Branch, who, in a wild offensive sequence involving Harrison getting in everyone's way, was injured.
Speaking of Harrison, I hope this was the worst game of his SJ's career because shooting 0% while chucking 10 shots may play on in his head and hurt us more than the Jamal injury.
A little too little too late taking him out of the game as he was out of the game the entire game.
Parlez  vous Francais coach Lavin? You finally opened that Rosetta Stone French gift I sent you!
Now, please share it with Phil Greene IV since he obviously does not understand Marc-Antoine when he is screaming PASSER LE BALLON!!!!
We were actually in this game near the end only because of Frenchie!
Mon Dieu! He reminded me of Chris Mullin....only slower and better looking.
I pray Jamal Branch recovers quickly since watching Phil Greene dribbling aimlessly as the clock winds down makes me wish Malik Stith was still on the bench.
Kudos to Karr who came alive in the second half and Sir Dom who did a little of everything again but not enough to compensate for the mental absence of D'Lo. I expect to see more of Felix Balamou in the next game.
I feel for Christian Jones who, left to shoot without any distractions around him, missed the ocean on his foul shot.
A final note--the Hoyas mascot looked quite sedated or he was totally exhausted after humping JT3s leg before the game.
I predict we will win the next game with Frenchie scoring 18 points and his teammates carrying him off the court singing La Marseillaise.....except for Phil Greene who is from Chicago and we know by now that the French are despised in the windy city.

This is ugly BB to watch, regardless of whether we are winning or losing a game. These players all have some very good BB SKILLS but, it hasn't come together as a team effort and that's on Steve..

G'town is a much better team and better Coached in FUNDAMENTALS. Plus, they will continue to torment us next year in the C7, AS all THEIR PLAYERS ARE BACK TOO!

Today our shooting was atrocious, laughable actually for a big time program.. 3 POINT DEFENSE? Where?

G'town is not a very good 3 pt team yet had so many open looks that is was criminal to watch.

What does Lavin do in Practice? Anything?

I WASN'T EXPECTING A WIN TODAY BUT, IT WASN'T COMPETITIVE..

11 DOWN AT THE HALF..Disappointing performance today by the Johnnies.. Poor habits are returning in this game. It amazes me that Lavin doesn't get better free throw performance as a team. If they hit even a couple or 3 more, we'd still be in the game.d'lo looks lost on both ends.

Must take advantage of Porter's 3 fouls in the 2nd half..

Keegan Bradley just clunked one in the water on the easy par 5. UGH. Not a good JOHNNIE DAY.[/quote

Not sure Harrison's bandage on one of his right fingers affected his shooting. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt.]

Cant believe how bad Harrison was and am glad Lavin benched him for the last 8 minutes. If this game means Bourgault will now get consistent minutes then all is not lost though I'm very worried about our backcourt right now. They're all banged up and Branch looks like he's done for the season. We needed to make this game more fast paced and hectic, it was played at GTown's pace and they were in control the whole game. Has Garrett ever hit a layup from the right side?

Got news for you he's not even making putbacks from the left side, his strength at Findlay High.

We really stuggle on offense. Hope Branch is ok. Whats up w DLO? He has been off lately, but horrible today. I noticed that his finger was taped. Injury? On a positive note Marco looked very good and will get more minutes.

Putting aisde the fact that we are not a good outside shooting team, we rarely get open shots

Exactly, just look at the open threes G'town had against our zone and look at our rushed threes against their zone. Difference is obviously in the offense, too much dribbling outside by Greene, suppose to move the ball fast enough to get an open shot. And what happened to our lack of penetration which should lead to an open three.

Can't believe we allowed Lubick to score a career high, of course most were layups. It appears to me that G'town plays with alot of confidence against us. I'd like a shot against them at the B.E. Tourney, perhaps we stick like glue to them playing man to man this time.

Lubick's was a cheap shot, as he was falling he was looking for someone to grab. Even after he landed on Branch he shoved him off him. Payback soon.

I only saw the replay once, but it looked as though D'lo gave Lubbick a shove which resulted in him landing on Branch. It could have been that Lubbick was looking to pull D'lo down and D'lo pushed him off. Didn't DVR the game but maybe someone that did could clarify.

The only way we even begin to partially offset losing Branch (he got carried off the court and he was in extreme pain...he's done for the year) is if we get Bourgault the ball and he keeps defenses honest making 3's consistently. G'Town was way bigger than us...they aren't just towering over us but they also have a TON of lean meat on them. What is Sampson like 170? A G'Town player his same height looked like he was 250 lbs. Enough of these sticks...we need more God'sgifts physically. This would really suck if neither Lawrence nor Jordan sign with us which is looking increasingly like the case. Who else can we even get if they don't come?
Problem is we are always late with the pass to the open man
So Marco runs to a spot the ball should be there but arruves a few seconds late when the D has adjusted
Again too much dribbling.Heard first half was a diaster. No excuse for the let down Tired of hearing the young card

This is as pissed as I've been all season. We can't freaking rebound. If we could rebound we'd probably be winning and Branch would still be playing.

The story of today's game.... Rebounding and second chance points practically did our bunch in.

Lubick's was a cheap shot, as he was falling he was looking for someone to grab. Even after he landed on Branch he shoved him off him. Payback soon.

I'd like to see if they can pull the hat trick by beating us a 3rd time. I'd like to see them in the Big East Tournament.

Poor gameplan going in.

Poor shooting and decision making by D'Angelo.

Recipe for a loss.

GTown simply out executed us.

I would've pressed and sped up the game against G'town. I would've done it in increments. You can't consistently press with our bunch, as overall they have a low hoops IQ, and it probably would've led to breakdowns (a few easy buckets) and fouls.

Georgetown is a terrible matchup for us. It's worse that it was on national TV for the selection committee to see us struggle. ON the positive, we have to use Borgault like the the Knicks do Novak.

I'm not worried about the committee seeing us lose games on national tv. If we end up with 10 or 11 conference wins, then we're going dancing. That is all that matters. I also feel confident in winning, at least, one game in the Big East Tournament (which, can also help us).

Why oh why can't we beat Georgetown? :-(

We split with 'em two years ago. I didn't think we could beat them last year with a very, short and inexperienced roster. I thought we would split with them this season, but to no avail. I'd like to see them again in conference tourney.

Enough of these sticks...we need more God'sgifts physically. This would really suck if neither Lawrence nor Jordan sign with us which is looking increasingly like the case. Who else can we even get if they don't come?

I didn't really like the move to sit GG this season. I've said before that his presence doesn't necessarily play a role in wins and losses. But his presence is missed due to his girth and leadership. The fact he's already had one season under his belt playing major D-1 ball could've also helped us this season.

I think he would've brought intangibles.

What makes you think we're not gonna land Lawrence or Jordan? I know we heard the twitter news on Lawrence, but he's still, supposedly, gonna visit St. John's? Remember, we heard the same, in regards to Obekpa last year, as well. I'm one who won't count out this staff until said player(s) has officially announced.

I would have liked someone to bang back with Lubick and have him pipe down a bit. I can't wait for CO to get better and hopefully eat him up next year.
