Gtown rematch game thread...

The only way we even begin to partially offset losing Branch (he got carried off the court and he was in extreme pain...he's done for the year) is if we get Bourgault the ball and he keeps defenses honest making 3's consistently. G'Town was way bigger than us...they aren't just towering over us but they also have a TON of lean meat on them. What is Sampson like 170? A G'Town player his same height looked like he was 250 lbs. Enough of these sticks...we need more God'sgifts physically. This would really suck if neither Lawrence nor Jordan sign with us which is looking increasingly like the case. Who else can we even get if they don't come?

Fight neatly broke out at mid court after the game. Could have been a disaster. Number of players had to be held back on both teams.

Really ? Who started it ?

Can there be suspensions for something after the game ?

I also hope Branch's injury is not that bad. But, watching Hooper and Gift helping him into the locker room, it looked like he couldn't even put any pressure on it. On another note, I'm not saying that we would have won this game, but, if Gift was playing I don't think that Nate Lubick has the kind of game that he did.

We really stuggle on offense. Hope Branch is ok. Whats up w DLO? He has been off lately, but horrible today. I noticed that his finger was taped. Injury? On a positive note Marco looked very good and will get more minutes.

Can't wait for Lavin to tell the post game media that he knew he has a sharpshooter on his bench. He just wanted to keep him under wraps until the perfect time.

February, after an injury to another guard.

All season Lavin has been trying to say this team is a work in progress and we should expect a lot of ups and downs. Right now we are not at the level of a Syracuse or Louisville. This program is headed in the right direction and we will get there.
Kellogg did mention during Marco's run that Lavin mentioned during the shot around that Marco was getting better and would see more time going forward.

I too hope that Branch's injury is not serious. But, watching Hooper and Gift helping him into the locker room, it looked like he couldn't even put any pressure on the knee. On another note, I'm not saying that we would have won the game with him, but, if we had Gift today I don't think that Nate Lubick has the type of game that he did.

Reality check game. With Branch we are much better, but not much more than a middle of the pack Big East team. I'm okay with that at this point though.

Thanks Beast and others. I just opened this site at 6:40 pm and have not read much but...
I did not think we could beat Gtown on the road; and if we would win only one of the next two, I would prefer to beat UConn at home. (I like UConn less than G'town etc.) We can still do that.

I'm optimisstic and grateful for the staff, players and direction of this team - however - I'm comfortable going to the NIT this year, winning some games, getting eperiene etc. then - if mosto or all of the players return - having an NCAA type season 2013-14.

Of course some here may disagree but I'm trying to be realistic while optimistic. Especially if Branch is out.

all the best

BEast, thans for your observations (I'm okay with that"). I just entered the site at about 6:45 and have not read most of the posts. But I can live with an NIT bid this year, get some experience, and hopefully have everyone back for next season and a 2013-14 NCAA season.
I'm very optimistic and like the direction of the staff, players, program etc. But tempering myself wiht reality such as when we play the "big boys".
Besides we can beat UConn and if I would only pick one win - I'd take UConn over Gtown.

all the best

It did seem like Phil didn't want to pass to Marco until he had little option.
Isolated play Perception or is there an issue?

Assume not, but does happen often...blatant example last game against DePaul

I heard from a reliable source that JSJ was in the middle of the fray, and offered to meet several G'Town players outside the arena.

Cant believe how bad Harrison was and am glad Lavin benched him for the last 8 minutes. If this game means Bourgault will now get consistent minutes then all is not lost though I'm very worried about our backcourt right now. They're all banged up and Branch looks like he's done for the season. We needed to make this game more fast paced and hectic, it was played at GTown's pace and they were in control the whole game. Has Garrett ever hit a layup from the right side?

Putting aisde the fact that we are not a good outside shooting team, we rarely get open shots

Couldn't really tell. Happened very quickly. Cooler heads prevailed before punches could have been thrown. Wouldn't expect any suspensions.

When JB went down I thought it was very, very serious. That he sat on the bench until the two minute mark made tme a little more optimistic. The way he was coming off the court I Thought they were going to take him to GW Hospital.

Lavin spoke to the D.C. Alumni chapter before the game. Event was held at Clyde's, next to The Cap Center. About 50 people attended.

@mikesnusz: Pushing and shoving as teams shake hands. Looks like #55 from Georgetown went after Garrett. #stjbb

@mikesnusz: Pushing in handshake line nearly led to an ugly scene post-game. No punches thrown but coaches were scurrying to get teams off court #stjbb
