G'TOWN GAME THREAD

Pointer is strong and gets to the hoop real well and isnt a bad foul shooter. . .he should do it more often. . .

Pointer is 24-44 (.545) in free throws. Only Garrett has worst percentage.

I can't believe some of the things that I have read regarding this game. Why are soe people ready to throw these kids and coaches under the bus? We are a very young team that is still learning how to play together and figure out their roles. We have a very short rotation and players get tired.
People are criticizing D'Angelo who was freshman of the week in the Big East recently and has been playing like one of the best freshmen in the country. He had a bad shooting game, hell everybody has one.
Phil was not supposed to be our starting PG, but is busting his A--, and doing the best he can. Next year, when he goes back to being a combo, this experience can only help him.
To the fools who criticized Dom, you have got to be out of your mind. The young man plays with heart and is aggressive, Yes he makes mistakes, but this is his 17th college game. Wonder how many of you were "World Beaters" so early in your chosen professions.
Amir just became eligible and is showing a little more every game.
Gift is a Juco transfer, and if truth be told, he is doing more than a lot of us expected. Can he get better, for sure, but with a year's experience, he should be vastly improved.
Malik is doing what he is capable of and being supportive of his teammates.
Moe is a future pro, nuff said.
I had the pleasure of sitting near Jamal Branch during the game and he was very excited about being a part of this team. Anyone who understands basketball would know that with a legitimate PG, a big that could take some of the pressure off Gift add a couple more players, this team can do very well next year.
Coach Lavin is out recruiting and I believe that he will sign a few good players. Coach Dunlap and the rest of the staff are working with this group daily to help them get better.
Personally, I feel very good about the direction that the program is headed and will continue to support these young men.

Great Post!

I think they have been taking too long looking for shots- I have seen too many time clock violations. Harrison needs to shoot more from the outside as well. Most of his missed shots were on drives

It's hard to be patient with a 19 point first half and 0 -10 from three point land. There is enough natural talent and athleticism on this team to do better than that, no?

NObody is saying coach is not out there recruiting and doing well These kids as you say having been playing basketball probably since they were 7yrs old Board members were expecting better from this group especially since they as individuals were ranked so high
Harrisson had a good week But coming in he was suppose to be one of the best shooters in his class that ability has not taken effect yet hopefully it will soon But if we get the players talked about everyone will feel a lot better and we then will be a force in the league Although our school is on the rise dissapointment in losing games is still hard Played a lot of basketball and no matter what if your competitive losing bothers you WE have a puzzle here and soon coach will get the missing pieces but uintil then every loss will be tough

What do you guys think today-- 9,000 at MSG?

What can you say If you are not a basketball fan you probably will only come to the games when we are ranked in the top 5 Support the team no matter what

+1

Maybe instead of complaining about 5 freshmen and no bench some fans should repost Norm Roberts record in his first 5 years at SJ. He claimed to be a "recruiting specialist" and for 5 years (not 3 months as with our fresh) he harped on being "young" and "getting better".
Let us hope we can give Lavin credit after year 2 for assembling more talent at SJ than Norm Roberts ever did in 6 years.
Then again, there will always be haters as we all know and they tend to become quiet when SJ does well.

didnt realize his % was that bad. He looked good yesterday and his form is not terrible leading me to believe he can/will improve his %.

Anyway, my point is that he gets to the basket and should do so more often. The team, in general, needs to be more agressive on offense and unafraid to take an open shot. We run the clock down and then end up with a low perecentage, off balance heave or worse yet -- a shot clock violation.
