Greg W Enters Portal

Cam Mack's mom was a bit much. Rod Odom's dad was a bit much where he posted, but his kid didn't even come here so no big deal. Those are the only two off the top of my head I've ever even made a negative note of. I don't have any issue whatsoever with either Owens' or Williams' dad.

Right now our best-looking member should be charming Kadary Richmond's mom. But since I'm here, it'll have to be the No. 2 guy on the list. Monte seems to have classic features, but Maher has the height and I heard Dinkins is a sharp dresser. So talk amongst yourselves and formulate a plan of attack.

Rule of thumb. If any fan feels the need to engage with a parent of a player over social media then it is time to step away from the device.
excellent point

.... or his father wants him to go find his “value” and “worth”. Interpret as you will.   I didn’t appreciate his dad’s clarification.
His dad and Robert's aunt are both really annoying.  That response didn't surprise me, he think Greg Jr. is the next Michael Jordan.

Really??  HIs father has been unconditionally supportive of the program even after frustrating losses and when Greg barely saw the floor under Mullin.  He's also always been exceptionally complimentary of CMA and staff.

Here is his response to a fan wishing him well today.......

A lot of fans like them, and like the interaction with them, not my cup of tea though.

You've been a St. John's fan for two days and are only here because you follow the coach. The Williams, Earlington and Roberts families have been great members of the University.

Damn, I didn't know you could only be a fan of a school/team only if you have a family member that's apart of the university. I gotta let my son know he can't be a Lakers fan anymore simply because he likes Lebron, he's gotta wait for me to get hired by the Lakers organization.

Thanks for the fan tips Greg Sr, and good luck to you son at his next destination.

Regarding Greg's dad, considering how active he was on twitter praising the team, has he said anything since the last game of the season? Did he welcome Stef Smith? I think it's been in the works for a while and fans may have missed the signs.
Careful here.... The Williams, Earlingtons, and Roberts families have been great members of University for centuries, don't you dare suggest that they didn't have the best interest of the university on their minds at all times or linx is going to revoke your fan card.

I did find it interesting that a damn reverse-carpetbagger has 600+ more posts than the guy attacking him about fandom./media/kunena/emoticons/grin.png

Thanks LJSA, but Mike Maher is the complete package: Tall, handsome, smart and rich. He's even got some personality....and a gorgeous wife. He's got my vote for Redmen Man of the Year.

Rasheem Dunn says Zach is wrong about the jealousy part and is mad that narrative is being formed. Said it was messed up Zach posted the quote.

Zach would not just say something like that without it coming from multiple sources.  I've only followed Zach for a couple a years, but from what I've seen he's one of the most credible journalist, if not the not the most credible, that covers the Johnnies.  Dunn may not like that the narrative is out there, but obviously if your a starter, a team captain, 3rd leading scorer, and claim you have no issues with the coaching staff, there's something bothering you to where you want to transfer.  Then you and your best friend decide to do it at the exact same time, obviously there's some animosity somewhere.  Literally the only other thing it could be is you don't feel you get enough credit or attention.  I could see how Champ and Posh getting all the attention would bother other players that are contributing, then Wusu kinda got all the attention as far as new comers since he was the biggest surprise.

And I am still getting a laugh at the Dom Pointer comparison. Pointer was a player that had maturity problems (see Notre Dame fight) that hurt him earlier in his career, but comparing Greg Williams to Dom Pointer on a talent level is doing Sir Dom a big disservice.

Dude, can you really not see the comparison was in response to your comments?

You’re the one who said players are done improving by junior year. You’re the one who said you are what your career scoring average says you are. You’re the one who said if he was going to be an impact player by the time he’s  a senior he would have moved other players out of the way.

Go ahead and look at sir doms numbers through his first three years especially his junior year. Then laugh some more at your inability to see some middle ground on this. How about Tariq Owens junior year numbers? He was only good enough to fill a role on a national championship runner up team.

Think about senior year Paris Horne and senior year Phil Greene. You think those two are in a different realm Than Williams? How important were they as seniors helping us make the tournament. The idea that Greg not being able to land at a blue blood is somehow an indication that we are better off without him is the real false narrative.

In all honesty who was the last 4 year player to stay all 4 years and graduate here? Was is D'LO, Sir Dom and Phil? or was it Amar? I know this year is an anomaly, but we really need to keep players here for 4 years if they are not top prospects. I bet some good programs will definitely contact G will. This year is crazy and I get that, but keeping this roster in tact was key for CMA going into next year. We definitely would have been predicted for a top 4 finish in the Big East if everyone returned besides a few minimal transfers. GW, Moore, and Earlington (who had is ups and downs) leaving will hurt this team. Time will tell who CMA brings in, but I am sure the eternal optimists on here will claim they all fit perfectly into CMAs system and know everything about each one of them from Youtube clips of them blowing by some mid major stiff who trips walking up the court.

So basically CMA will have to teach his system to entirely different roster next year besides posh and wusu, and hopefully Julian. Not good. This isn't the NBA where we can get the best players and they will figure it out. This coach implements a system that isn't that easy to pick up right away. He thrives on roster continuity and development, which we all rave about. A year like this with all the transfers could really screw us.

You are the one that got discovered by a casting person while you were walking in Manhattan not me my friend. But I'll gladly use my personality next to Broadway Monte and the Dapper Dinkins in the big city on the east coast while LJSA gets the west coast ( we just cant tell his wife )

I'm not even saying we need to keep kids here all 4 years.

I'm just saying we can't be successful returning only two players (Posh, Dylan) from last year's squad.

I don't know how these things work, so I don't know how receptive the staff would be for them (or some) to return.  Probably depends on the guy.  I think that is probably the exception, not the norm.  Earlington's comments were both telling and rational.  He wants to play more, and he wants to have a role that he was not afforded here.  With the opportunity to go somewhere else without having to sit out, it makes sense, for him and others others.  His expression that "nothing went wrong" is comforting and confirms for me that this is more of an opportunistic situation (maybe a unique one) and not indicative of a broader programmatic issue.  While Earlington he was a valuable piece, he won't be that hard to replace (the replacements may already be on the way).

I just feel at this point that I want the staff to move swiftly (to the extent possible) to close some of these gaps soon, not let them linger and then have to settle.  My expectation, rightly or wrongly, is that we will be better with the replacements, on balance.  But we'll see.  I do trust at a very high level, the staff's recruitment prowess and talent evaluation.

It is sad to see so many good kids leave the program all at once, but I am looking ahead, not back.
