I don’t get it.  All these guys leaving.  At what point does CMA accept responsibility?
Maybe he isn’t the kind old fatherly guy we have been led to believe.
Although, it's not a good look, I'm not gonna quickly jump to conclusions considering the amount of players transferring in college basketball.

Let's see what happens when the smoke clears which is similarly to what billthetruth alluded to above.

Maybe just maybe some of these guys are not made for the tough practices that CMA runs and what is expected from them on a daily basis. Ewing seems to run his program with the old school JT rules and similar intense daily practices. Some guys are just not cut out for strict rules. If that is case I am glad we are bringing in 7 new guys. Maybe we will not get killed by DePaul at home again with NCAA tournament on the line.

There is a reason CMA has never had a losing season and why he will not next year when everything settles

Times are changing Bill. The old way of doing things is no more. Like with any business, those who adapt will succeed, and those who don't will be gone. I said from the beginning that I don't care how CMA gets it done, just so long as he gets it done. CMA's blueprint for success(tough love, developing players over time, 40 minutes of hell, etc) may not work in the new era of college basketball. Time will tell if he can adapt.

That might be the case, but CMA gave Greg, Marcellus and Roberts the chance they didn’t get with Mullin. And, other than Roberts, I don’t think Greg or Earlington, should have a complaint base on PT, freedom and development. If they simply want an opportunity to be a focal point, then transferring is probably a good decision.

Great members of our program...Both will be missed...but, next man up...CMA will find them

“Greg Williams Sr. on his son's decision to transfer: "It's not a question of loyalty. He's been loyal to St. John's and the fans. He's been an exemplary person. He's doing nothing more than trying to see what's his value, what's his worth." #sjubb”

Looking to find “value” and “worth” seem to me to be shopping around.  I thought cma played him as much as possible when he was healthy.

I was just about to post this.  That was the most contradictory statement I ever seen.  Imagine a husband telling a wife... "I'm loyal, I just want to find somebody else to be with to see if I still got it, if I don't have it anymore, I'll come back to you baby."

There's literally nothing else CMA could have done for Williams, he didn't play at all for Mullin, CMA was patient with his injuries, played him a lot of minutes, made him captain, started him, and has a system that really fits his skillset.  I'm not sure what else he could be looking for?  Earlington I can understand, but Williams is a huge headscratcher.  Only logic thing I can think of is he didn't think he'd be able to beat out Wusu or Stef Smith.  Which honestly he should have felt confident in outplaying both of those guys.

One good thing about them transferring is on gameday I don't have to read all the #sjubb on twitter kissing Greg Williams Sr. butt every time Greg dribbles the ball.  And man, oh man, am I happy about never having to hear the word "nephson" again with Josh Roberts.

I guess I just don't understand. His value, his worth? Is he saying he wasn't valued properly at St. Johns? Is he thinking a higher level D1 team is going to give what he expects?

.... or his father wants him to go find his “value” and “worth”. Interpret as you will.   I didn’t appreciate his dad’s clarification.

His dad and Robert's aunt are both really annoying.  That response didn't surprise me, he think Greg Jr. is the next Michael Jordan.

Not a question of loyalty?? Your son has been nothing but an underwhelming disappointment and yet CMA and staff have given him every opportunity to succeed here. And most of us have held out hope he would be a consistent contributor and supported GW unconditionally.

Nothing against looking around for greener pastures but sometimes parents need to shut their mouths

Really??  HIs father has been unconditionally supportive of the program even after frustrating losses and when Greg barely saw the floor under Mullin.  He's also always been exceptionally complimentary of CMA and staff.

Here is his response to a fan wishing him well today.......

His injuries were his own disappointment, and ours.

All true except next man up, when you're trying to improve your team from one year to the next, is only successful when the next man up is better then the player they replaced. So far CMA's success with transfers has been a very mixed bag. So I'm not banking on him bringing in a group of new kids who are better then the kids who left. So far Smith looks to be a wash for Dunn. We'll see who the next man up is.

What were you expectations for him to be nothing but an underwhelming disappointment? Crazy

per 40 minutes this year:
15.5 pts, 3.5 rebs, 3.5 asts, 2 steals, 1 block on great shooting %s.  Look around the league at teams 2nd guards and see for yourself how much your undervaluing him.

It always seemed like Greg's dad was super supportive of St Johns. I heard him on I forget a podcast last year or whatever and he sounds like great dad and well grounded. It' not like he was Cam Mack's mom fighting with people

Seriously, people going after him are delusional. You hope to deal with parents of kids like that.

I agree Mase.....I think many are underestimating GWill.  Coaches won't and I imagine he is going to have a lot of high major interest.    My sense is that he is looking for a bigger program and a better chance to have a March Madness experience.  Plenty of good coaches are going to jump at the chance to land Greg.

He was even more valuable to us as a senior team leader.  Just remember, as of now, Julian is the only roster player that has played in front of 10,000 people at the Garden.  We just lost a lot of experience and that is nothing to sneeze at.

Im sure Kentucky, Kansas, Duke, UNC, UCLA, and Gonzaga rushed to the phone this afternoon.

That’s the middle ground you want to go with? Again, explains your stance.

And please my man press the “source” button and click under the posts when you quote it. You’re quotes inside quotes are killing me nearly as much as your thoughts on Greg ;)
