His dad and Robert's aunt are both really annoying.  That response didn't surprise me, he think Greg Jr. is the next Michael Jordan.

Really??  HIs father has been unconditionally supportive of the program even after frustrating losses and when Greg barely saw the floor under Mullin.  He's also always been exceptionally complimentary of CMA and staff.

Here is his response to a fan wishing him well today.......

A lot of fans like them, and like the interaction with them, not my cup of tea though.

I certainly wish GWill well.  Just didn’t take his pops comments about Greg finding his value and worth and taking his talent elsewhere as a senior particularly couth at this point in time.  He’s shopping his talent, I get it.  Good luck but it’s not particularly good for program, school, coach nor fans that have invested in the kids as well.  I’m not sure why people have to be happy about it.

Regarding Greg's dad, considering how active he was on twitter praising the team, has he said anything since the last game of the season? Did he welcome Stef Smith? I think it's been in the works for a while and fans may have missed the signs.

I agree Mase.....I think many are underestimating GWill.  Coaches won't and I imagine he is going to have a lot of high major interest.    My sense is that he is looking for a bigger program and a better chance to have a March Madness experience.  Plenty of good coaches are going to jump at the chance to land Greg.

He was even more valuable to us as a senior team leader.  Just remember, as of now, Julian is the only roster player that has played in front of 10,000 people at the Garden.  We just lost a lot of experience and that is nothing to sneeze at.

Im sure Kentucky, Kansas, Duke, UNC, UCLA, and Gonzaga rushed to the phone this afternoon.

That’s the middle ground you want to go with? Again, explains your stance.

And please my man press the “source” button and click under the posts when you quote it. You’re quotes inside quotes are killing me nearly as much as your thoughts on Greg

my stance is Greg Williams is a classic underachiever and should not be guaranteed 30 minutes of playing time. He couldn't beat out Dunn and was going to have a hard time beating out Smith. He didn't want to fight and earn his playing time again and I am glad Anderson is not giving in to his or his parents demands on his worth and value.

Wish him good luck, but anybody with any sense of basketball knowledge knows he is not getting major minutes at any big-time program.

I wish Greg well. I enjoyed watching him play under Coach A. His Dad was always very cool on Twitter. I hope his back holds up on his next team. It seems Coach A has moved on. Good luck Greg!

I don’t think GWill was disloyal.  I think fans just hoped he’d stick it out for his last and hopefully best year.  Like I said, found his pops comments about going to find his value and worth a bit unpalatable considering cma was also quite loyal to the kid and he played 26 minutes per game which is nothing to sneeze at, especially considering Greg being rarely fully healthy.  I wish GWill the best.  I thought his father’s comments were kinda kicking sand in our face though.

And I am still getting a laugh at the Dom Pointer comparison. Pointer was a player that had maturity problems (see Notre Dame fight) that hurt him earlier in his career, but comparing Greg Williams to Dom Pointer on a talent level is doing Sir Dom a big disservice.

I don't think it's fair to say he couldn't beat out Dunn.  Rasheem was a ball handler, Greg is not a point guard.  They were not competing for the same minutes.  Regarding Smith, I will be thrilled if he is an upgrade, but I don't think any of us know that yet.

I never heard that Greg's parents were demanding playing time.  Unless you know that to be true, it's probably not a great thing to assume.

You've been a St. John's fan for two days and are only here because you follow the coach. The Williams, Earlington and Roberts families have been great members of the University.

correct me if I am wrong, but wasn’t Alexander the Point Guard and Dunn the Shooting Guard for the bulk of Big East play this year?

am I missing something?

I see GWill's departure, and most of the others, as less of a lack of loyalty and more of a lack of faith in the staff and prospects for the team next season. I don't care what they say publicly. Same as I felt when Tariq Owens left.

I will bet that none of them wind up at a higher level basketball program like Tariq did.

and play major minutes on any higher level Final Four type program like Tariq did

To me, it's not loyalty, faith or prospects of team.

For most, it's about playing time/minutes, position, being able to showcase.

For some, it's because the coach is pointing them to the door.

Rule of thumb. If any fan feels the need to engage with a parent of a player over social media then it is time to step away from the device.

We often played three guards.

It sucks that he’s leaving, he’s really the only guy transferring out that I consider a hit of any kind (maybe a little with Earlington though he should be pretty easy to replace) but considering the issues he’s already had with his back, I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s a chronic injury that’ll be detrimental to any kind of professional career.

I hope I’m wrong, the few times this season he was healthy he was an impactful player with some ferocious hops, but it’s never good when a guy his age is already having these kinds of issues.

The problem with Greg, Celly, and Josh leaving is that they knew the system, they had good repoire with their teammates, and were leaders on and off the court. They were a very good culture fit.

Sometimes when you try to plug in holes you take chances and end up with guys like Moore and Cole who were malcontents and didn't fit. That's what is somewhat concerning regarding next season. We need the pieces to fit well. Plugging in so many guys is a tough task. The staff has been chipping away. The transfers don't come as surprise but they still sting a bit.
